jazzbo Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Hi , nice to discover this forum.. Two heritages A gorgeous sweet 16 from 1999 bought used . but mint, as it was lying in its case for many a year,, the tone wood has just started singing..I recently upgraded the #3 floater to a beautiful kent Armstrong handmade PAF with adjustable poles..Flatwound Thomastik Inks give it a wonderful tone for the swing style that I play Most recent addition is a Millenium SAE that was built in 2001..this baby is really a chambered Les PAul guitar with two HRWs and a LR BAGGS piezo bridge pickup. It came with a stereo cable that outputs both the humbuckers and the piezo. Flatwounds on this one give me the tone i like Does anyone know what these guitars might be worth ? Thundersteel Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 WELCOME TO THE H.O.C! Nice SAE! Now, you need to post a pic of that Sweet 16! Try looking at Ebay to get a ballpark figure of what they're selling for.
cod65 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 what its worth and what it sells for on ebay are not the same thing! I have a stripped-down millenium 158, with none of the fancy stuff, so I pay attention to this model. frankly they haven't seemed to find their niche in the used market, despite the fact that they are cool as hell. People generally try to sell them for close to what they paid for- i think around 2k$. But there are often no takers. maybe in 10 more yrs people will wake up to this great design.
jazzbo Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 Ok so here are some pics of the Sweet Sixteen..look closely and you will see that the original Jazz#3 pup has been replaced with a Kent Armstrong handwound PAF with adjustable pole pieces.. This has improved the amplified tonality of the guitar in addition to the dramatic and vast improvement in output db (Clean !) I no longer have to carry my Fishman platinum eq box (+ preamp) although the fishman is still a wonderful eq manager. The jazz sound with the thomastik flats is just amazing..and there is no question you are playing what is still an accoustic instrument. if any one needs help with swapping out the jazz #3 floater, feel free to contact me. jazzbo Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 And for SAE folks, here is some detail on the SAE.. Notice the stereo lead (original) the blue tip jack is the output for the LR Baggs Piezo. The red jack is the HRW output. The piezo is apparently capable of being wired to output each string individually, making this ideal for synth freaks !..the stock wiring outputs all 6 bridge saddles as one output. I think this is a laminate guitar , a clone to the H-158? can anyone confirm? The tone is remarkable and transmits the "woodyness" of the semi hollow. I can actually practice this unplugged and hear most everything except the very low E,F G tones accurately. The HRWs are very loud and actually quite overwhelming in the bass, particularly with flats..and I have to had lower the bass side of the neck pu quite a bit to get some evenness. Rem Wall informed me that this is a custom guitar. Question..I have been informed that all SAE have MOP dot markers ..this one as you can see has block markers ..like an Ultra..the model # inside the guitar isimply says Millenium SAE Alm-SB (almond binding, sunburst ?).. Every thing I have read about an SAE is that it has H-158 MOP dot markers.. can any one tell me why this one has blocks ? Also, any guesstimates of how many of these were made ?
