schundog Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Paul (SkyDog52) is a rather quiet, subdued guy, and not one to brag, so I thought I'd "out" him on here with some pics of him picking up his new build. His beautiful wife was with him, joked about the locked closet at home where he keeps his stuff, saying she doesn't even KNOW what he's got in there. Then she was a good enough sport to pretend to give the look we've probably ALL gotten from our ladies when we bring home a new toy, haha. http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz327/schundog/PSP5/Copy2ofPSPV220.jpg[/img]"]https://
Guest HRB853370 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 When did this happen? Sure missed out on that event! Sure is a beautiful axe.
kbp810 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 When did this happen? Sure missed out on that event! Sure is a beautiful axe. I'm with you on this... how did I miss a Skydog NGD at the factory!?!?!? Paul, you (sky)dog you! Another top shelf guitar for a top shelf man.
yoslate Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Had the privilege of handling that one! Just a gorgeous instrument, with a great neck carve! Paul certainly has a keeper in that one! Love the Florentine cutaway on that body style!
DetroitBlues Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Wow, Paul. That is fantastic! What is the color on that? I took a picture of the vintage orange Millie they had, but my photo looks more yellow than orange, very similar to your new guitar.
Gitfiddler Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Skydog52~ You should change your handle to 'LuckyDog52'!! What a gorgeous Millie Custom! I knew you had something special up your sleeve ever since you lusted after that NAMM Millie photo, haha!. Play it in good health.
Steiner Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I've had the good fortune to know SkyDog52 for some time. In addition to being a stand up guy and fine guitar player, he's also an admirable woodworker; the finest qualities in any human. I know of no person more deserving of that beautiful ax. Enjoy it in good health SkyDog52! Happy New Heritage Guitar Day!!!
brentrocks Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 That is quite the MILLI.....love the vintage orange too!!
kidsmoke Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I asked Jim Duerloo what he felt Heritage builds better than anyone, or what's his favorite guitar that they make. He answered the Millenium Pro, which at that point I didn't think I'd ever seen one, even in photos. That sent me off on a plant wide search for a body, in any stage of it's build. None were to be found. I went back to Jim to ask him if there was one to see, and he said, well, Paul's got one leaving here this weekend!" Off I went in search of Skydog...I just had to see one. I love the Millie size. Man, it does not disappoint. Apparently...Jim is to these as Marv is to the 357, it's his baby, although I think maybe a few more folks get involved in the build then they do with the 357. This design is Jim's and he made no bones about the fact that he's proud of it. And for good reason. Beautiful guitar, man.
MartyGrass Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 IMO, this is what the LP Custom should have been in the 50's. I'm serious.
FredZepp Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 A stunning instrument, for sure. ...!! And a fine example of the craftsmanship that is the Heritage of Kalamazoo.
Kuz Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Completely GORGEOUS!!!! I, too, would have liked to seen that baby in person!!!
bolero Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 wow that looks amazing!! congrats Skydog! I was also talking to Jim & mentioned how cool the new millie design was, with that florentine cutaway. he perked right up, was very proud of the design ( and rightly so!! ) good to see them being built & sold!! I had only seen pics of the one from NAMM until this weekend
Spectrum13 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Back by the wheel was a fine piece of mahogany cut as a millie pro.

Just got back from visiting my daughter in Chicago. This was a great little vacation starting with PSP V! Had a great time visiting with everyone, for me that is the best part of the whole thing. Stopped by Heritage this morning to pick up this great guitar that we are used to getting from the great luthiers at Heritage. You know what makes it best is getting to personally meet and get to know all of them. Really salt of the earth type people! By the way Brian I get a completely different look when she is really pissed at me! Thanks to all of you. I have over 100 pictures from PSP V to figure out how to upload. Coming soon!
fxdx99 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Congratulations, Paul! As nice as those pics are, the guitar in person sparked an IMMEDIate gas-attack (for me). It's gorgeous - the top, dark fingerboard, florentine horn, and the dark sides/back contrast to the front... spectacular! Nice seeing you again, Paul. Sounds like a really nice weekend.

I've only seen the pictures and had that same reaction; I've got Milli on the brain now and I've got it bad. Seems like I can't hardly even go to the Milli without having to Milli first, and thats assuming I don't Milli over the Milli on the way there. I better get my Milli's together before I hop in the Milli and Milli off on out to kalamamillizoo. Slammer, seiously man, I need the number to your GAS therapist, soon!
kbp810 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Almost forgot to ask my orginal queston - which pups did you go with?
skydog52 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Almost forgot to ask my orginal queston - which pups did you go with? Been a busy day. Just getting ready to fire it up. I put Bare Knuckle Stormy Mondays in this one.
hotfordcoupe Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 It's NGD, hoooray!! I've gotten that look from my wife also. Hope you enjoy that new toy for a long time.
