CrustHunter Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hi can anyone tell me what size and type of truss rod wrench is needed for heritage guitars?
CrustHunter Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 I had already assumed that but what type and what size as I really dont know the G!(&%$ type or size.
Paul P Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 If they're all the same, you'll need a 5/16" socket, one with six sides would be better than one with 12. I think 8mm should work (5.04/16") but I haven't tried. The last thing you want to do is round over the nut. I always loosen the strings before tightening a truss rod. Paul P

Paul P Yep - use a 6-pointer for sure.
JohnCovach Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Carvin sells a great truss rod wrench that works for Gibson and Heritage guitars. It has the hex wrench on one end and a philliips tip on the other. It's only a couple of bucks on their website. I'm about to buy a few more (keep one in every case!).

Here it is : http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=TR1 They say it's 1/4" which seems kind of small for a truss rod nut. If it's not an error it won't fit my Heritage. They mention another wrench "TR2" which I can't find on their site. A nice tool if it's the right size. A Philips screw driver to remove the truss rod cover and the wrench to adjust. stewmac has the wrench without the screw driver in 5/16" 'Gibson' size : http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_...d_Wrenches.html Here's a 5/16" wrench with the screwdriver, but I don't know the company : http://www.dguitarparts.com/tools.htm Paul P
JohnCovach Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Yep, I stand corrected on that. The one I have has the Gibson size (5/16 I guess) with the screwdriver, plus a vinyl coating on the shaft to make for a better grip. Now that I think about it, I got that one from a guitar shop a few years ago. It's not exactly like any of the ones pictured in the links above.
