barrymclark Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Hey folks. My JC120 has a bit of that dirty pot sound when I turn the volume knobs on occasion. What and how best to clean that out? Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner
DetroitBlues Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Electrical contact cleaner. Pull the knob off and squirt it in while turning the knob.
davesultra Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Be very carefull using contact cleaner. It's very harsh and sometimes can make it worse. I always used Deoxit D5, or go 2 Radio Shack and get some Tuner cleaner. BTW: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU USE WD-40!!
tbonesullivan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 stewmac has a kind of "snorkel" that you can put onto the front of the knobs. In general though it's far more effective to pull the chassis and spray it directly into the pot cavity. you get much better coverage. Also, definitely use the Deoxit D5 or the Radio shack tuner control cleaner and lubricant. You want the mineral oil in there to help stop more oxidation from happening after you clean the old oxidation off. Also i'd recommend blasting some canned air into the pot first to get out any dirt/dust.
kbp810 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Deoxit - though cleaning doesn't always do the trick; might be time to swap those noisy pots out.
