kbp810 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 An all maple guitar with an ebony board ? That may turn out to be a very bright sounding guitar. On the other hand maybe that's what you're looking for ? Good call on the chestnut burst, I'm surprised there aren't more Heritages in that colour. Still mahogony in the middle, but I generally don't tend to favor overly bright guitars What pups are you thinking about? I've been wondering about Burnt Amber lately. I like that look also. I'm really hoping to talk to Ren about this rumored H-Kazoo pups - if possible, that's what I'll be going with; else, I'll have some thinking to do, but will probably lean towards Tom Buckers. I wonder a lot about Burnt Amber as well; but it depends greatly on the piece of wood it's on - sometimes it looks killer, and other times it comes over as a tad too dark in some spots for my tastes. I thought they discontinued the 'H', and split block inlays, though, I love split block inlays. Yeah, I am fairly sure the H is discontinued as well - actually why I put out the WTB thread a short while back Split blocks should still be available, though will likely be a one-off in a 24.75" scale (I beleive they only stock split block fingerboards in 25.5)

I wonder if the rumored H-Kazoo pickups may be the ones wound by a friend of Ren's , Ken Rambow from Kalamazoo. He made a set that was well received in a 150 a while back... He decribes them.... ......the pickups are wound to vintage specs, feature vintage wire, and should deliver vintage sound. And yes, they are wound in Kalamazoo. I live about 10 minutes from Heritage .

SouthpawGuy Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Still mahogony in the middle, but I generally don't tend to favor overly bright guitars Not sure what you mean by "in the middle" isn't the Millie made like this .... One piece of wood to which the back and sides are added. So if the sides are maple the centre is also maple. Don't have a lot of experience with maple neck / ebony board guitars but my Ibanez Artist has that combo with a mahogany body / maple cap and it's quite a bit brighter than expected.
PunkKitty Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Brian, that sounds great. I can't wait to see pictures when it's finished.
kbp810 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Yes that would be correct for the construction (at least to the best of my knowledge) Though I believe when amplified any potential over-brightness can be counteracted by using Alnico 2 magnet pups and 250k pots (and experiement with a few cap values) - I'm going to talk this one over still a bit though as I tend to prefer a warmer sound.... on the other hand however, I am also hoping to have some fair acoustical sound with this guitar unplugged (or perhaps the best I can get from a small body semi), and in that regard a brighter sound might be desirable. Either way, I'm sure they won't steer me wrong.
barrymclark Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 That is awesome Brian! Cant wait to see posted pictures! Last night I had to consign myself to the notion that my NHD would be pushed out to early next year at earliest. Way too much going on financially and want to keep my sure footing. All in good time. I have my H575 and 6120 to keep me warm at night though. Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner
Guest HRB853370 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I am glad you are keeping this project top secret Brian. Your Navy training served you well. We certainly would not want anybody on this forum generating excitement about this project!!!!
RhoadsScholar Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 The Chestnut bug has struck again. Should be a good build.

kbp810 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 Slight and unfortunate derailment of plans occured last night; so the custom Millie order will be slightly delayed... The Mrs. was driving home from work last night, stopped at a red light, and someone came blazing down the opposing road, lost control, and t-boned her (on the drivers side) at an estimated 40 mph impact. Turns out (per the police) the guy had been shot and was trying to drive himself to the hospital (the same hospital she was leaving work from). Anyways, I'm not sure what the side impact saftey rating is on a 2010 Honda Civic... but it rates pretty damn high in my book. Despite the high speed impact, and that they had to cut the door away to get her out of the car; she escaped with just some bruises, bumps, and a sore back. The second pic shows why they had to cut the door away - that seat ain't where it was before!
DetroitBlues Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Wow, I can't believe she walked away from that. I'm glad Tracy is ok, albeit a little sore. Those side curtain airbags really came in handy. I guess the silver lining is you'll finally be buying a new car... Mustang GT was it? But seriously, I'm glad she's ok and that you chose such a safe car.
Gitfiddler Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 OMG! Well that certainly puts things into perspective! Glad your wife is doing well. She is going to be in a lot of pain over the next few days and forward. Get all of the insurance help you can from your carrier as well as the negligent driver. Also, take photos of your wife's bruises with a date stamp just in case you need them down the road. Good luck, Brian!
FredZepp Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 That's a shocking story.. and shocking pics. I am so glad that Tracy had no serious injuries, but do take the time to make sure that there are no hidden issues. I really enjoyed the time that I spend with you two at PSP and wish you the best is getting everything resolved...
DavesNotHere Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Wow Brian, that could have been so much worse. I'm glad she's doing OK.
brentrocks Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 What pups are you thinking about? I've been wondering about Burnt Amber lately. I like that look also. With a guitar that classy....i would spend the extra coin and get THROBAKs.....SLE-101s MXVs Good luck Brian....maybe have it in time for Xmas????
Guest HRB853370 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Glad she survived it with nominal injury. Hope they charge the other guy with everything there is. Is your wife a nurse?
SouthpawGuy Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Sorry to hear about the latest developments, it certainly does put things into perspective.
Steiner Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 The Steiners send our best to the KBP810s. May the pain killers far outweigh the twangs from this morning's ballet!
gpuma Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Good luck! I am sending you and your wife my best wishes
brentrocks Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 i didnt see the post about the crash.....im glad she is ok!!!
kbp810 Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks everyone for the kind words and well wishes! To answer Slammers questions, she is an MRI tech Tim, thanks for the advice!
Blunote Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Wow! I'm so glad she wasn't hurt. A 40mph drivers side impact used to a lot more serious. That Millie you want to order sound similar to my Chestnut Burst which I think you've played.
