koula901 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 So far, everything seems to be okay. What could possibly happen? Tubes burn out? would a circuit ever burn out? How would I know? Should I watch for/listen for anything?
t0aj15 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I wouldn't worry, I've done worse many times over the years with little or no bad affect on the gear.
DetroitBlues Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 As long as you had the speaker in it, you should be fine. Just think of it as being played for 12 hours of use. You wouldn't expect it to fail after using it on and off for a total time of twelve hours...
Gitfiddler Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Yep, your amp should be fine. I accidently left my BJ on overnight, went to work and didn't notice it for about 24 hours!! It sounded a little harry for about a day or so afterwards, but since then it has been fine. Blue Jr. amp's ON light is almost flush with the top and easy to miss. I much preferred Fender's jewel lights.
JackBaruth Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I left my homemade five-watter on for two entire weeks at my church gig. Forgot to turn it off and didn't return until the Sunday after the following Sunday. No harm done. Many of these tubes were designed to be used for years in other applications.

Not sure what an FB is Katy, but you should be fine. Aside from running up your electric bill. I once left my Dual Turntable playing a Rolling Stones record for two months. The tonearm came to the end of the record, and failed to lift up to its resting place automatically, like it was supposed to. So my diamond stylus was riding at the end of the album, almost on the label for two months.
koula901 Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Whew! Thanks guys! What stories you all have!! @ slammer, FB= Fender Blues Jr.
Bonefish Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Tim, you may want to think about rephrasing that statement above, it conjectures thoughts I don't want to have. . +1. (I much prefer Katie's abbreviation)
DetroitBlues Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Katies is better than calling the amp the BJ....

TalismanRich Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 There are audiophiles who will leave tube equipment on 24 hours a day. Old tube broadcast stuff went for years 24/7. I knew of an old Bogen tube amp on a paging system. It ran about 10 years and was on all the time. A tube amp shouldn't burn up after 12 hours, or even 12 days.

My understanding is that it is the heating up and cooling off that is the worst thing for the tubes. So, leaving on for 12 hours would actually cause much less wear than having running for a total of 30 minutes but turning it off and on 6 times during the same 12 hour span. (not an expert here, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
