savethematches Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I'm a longtime member of the Hamer Fan Club and just drifted over here to show you a Heritage that I have in my grubbly little paws. Back in 94, my brother was going through some hard times and selling off guitars to make ends meet. At the time, I was doing quite well and felt bad for him. I decided to buy him a keeper guitar, and it happened to be a Heritage gold top. I picked it up for $499 with OHSC. Several years later, he returned the favor and bought me a guitar. A couple of weeks ago, we swapped guitars, and the Heritage is with me now. Check it out! The serial is blurry but reads C32502. Pics don't show it very well, but the finish on the body is cracked in several places and has been ever since I first saw it in the store. He recently replaced the bridge pickup with a JB since the original was microphonic and squealed like a Deliverance character. The guitar has a lot of bumps, bruises, character, and especially . . . tone! This thing absolutely kills!
FredZepp Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Great story of the guitar's history. It makes a great guitar even better. That's a sweet 140 GT. Enjoy...
Genericmusic Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I would say that is a keeper. Welcome to the cult.
Spectrum13 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Well played indeed! What is the neck and back woods? Korina or mahogany.

JeffB Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Nice guitar. Welcom to the HOC. Love the florintine cut away.
hotfordcoupe Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Great looking guitar and you got it at such a great price. Welcome to the HOC.
savethematches Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Thanks for the welcome! I've been Hamer-less for a while now and have felt the urge to move on to a different hangout, so I think I'll stick around a while. FWIW, I'm 42 years old, and I teach high school English in Central Illinois. In addition to the Heritage, I have an Epiphone Les Paul with an eye-popping quilt top, and Jackson Dinky with a Sustainiac. I'm currently running a Peavey Vypyr 30 stack, and I perform with my 15 year old daughter, who is an excellent drummer, in the praise band at our church. Well played indeed! What is the neck and back woods? Korina or mahogany. Edited to say that I'm not sure about the woods used in the guitar. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us both on the subject.
Hfan Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Nice guitar and welcome, I like Hamers as well, very well made and can be had at a reasonable price point..
AP515 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Edited to say that I'm not sure about the woods used in the guitar. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us both on the subject. Welcome savethematches, I'm pretty sure that is hog. My 150 looks a lot like that. It has some kind of paint on it and then sanded for a lack of a better description.
bolero Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 STM, welcome, that is a killer guitar!! I love the stinger...and am growing quite fond of Florentine cutaways, especially after seeing the new Millenium Pro model they make...the sillhouette is very similar to yours! -->mahogany is usually treated with a filler before finished/painted, as it's a very porous wood...as far as I know, Gibson has always done this, and the Heritage guys I'm sure do as well so AP515 it's probably got filler in it under the finish ( clear? ) StM what does it say on the back of the control plate? there may be more info on there
savethematches Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 I'll pull the control plate and take a look tonight if I have time. Today is the first full day of school, and I spent it "getting the bluff in" on the potential troublemakers; hence, this fat boy is pretty much worn out! I haven't talked this much in months! BTW, Bolero, I noticed under your avatar that you're into cycling. Road bikes? Mountain bikes? I dabble in both but am not very good at either. It sure is fun, though!

You guys start early. Or is it just for the teachers?
savethematches Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Today was the first full day with the kids. I started last Thursday. Well, I actually started two weeks prior to that with Jr. High summer school. Anyways, I'm just gonna chill out and surf the net tonight. Maybe I'll be more ambitious tomorrow and check the control cavity.
bolero Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 BTW, Bolero, I noticed under your avatar that you're into cycling. Road bikes? Mountain bikes? I dabble in both but am not very good at either. It sure is fun, though! ah, I started mountain biking years ago on the west coast, then moved here where it's flat...and got a road bike. I try to do both. it's not easy to get to any decent hills like I used to have in my backyard, grrr haven't been out much this year though, getting a nice spare tire around my midsection -->I have an old handmade steel Salsa MTB frame for offroad, and got a Kona Kapu for road riding...it was hard to find a more traditional steel road frame!! they're mostly carbon & aluminum nowadays...mine is orange, kind of Eddie Merckx looking I also have a titanium MTB frame hanging on the wall ready to be built up, but the Salsa is still going strong, so no rush
grubber Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Now that's a beauty guitar. And Karma is a bitch--but sometimes a good bitch, as in this case. Welcome to the club!
High Flying Bird Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 A school teacher with a bike. You will never fit in here.... That is an old case. When I bought a 150 in 1990 it was in a rectangular case. That case reminds me of the shape of the SAE. Welcome aboard!

There are many parallels between the bike and guitar hobbies, the need for more and/or better gear, and the price tags associated with said gear! I'm a Captain Lowbuck in both hobbies unfortunately. Bikewise, I have a Raleigh Mojave 3.0 for trail riding and a Diamondback Insight 1 flat bar road bike. Now that I'm done hijacking my own thread, back to the Heritage. I tried to get the control panel cover off last night, but two of the screws are being difficult. I'll try again and let you know what I find if/when I'm able to get the cover off.
Thundersteel Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Welcome! I'm a Hamer fan as well, as I currently own two (Studio Custom and an Artist Custom). I'm also a member of the HFC.
