h555owner Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 i have a h-555 from what i can tell by the serial number made in 1988 because it starts with a E it has 3 switches on it that i cant seem to find on any other h-555 im wondering how much it is worth. it has a slight oxidation on the tunning knobs and humbuckers but other then that it its flawless.
mars_hall Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Detailed pics would go a long ways to estimating a value. The three switches are a variphase circuit which is usually a pair of coil splitters and a variable phase shift filter (resistive controlled) circuit. The limited shifting of the filter point occurs on one of the two pickups. Search the site for 3 switch variphase or VIP-2 and you should find more info.
gpuma Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Search the site for 3 switch variphase or VIP-2 and you should find more info. But isn't a 1988 model too early for a VIP2?
DetroitBlues Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 But isn't a 1988 model too early for a VIP2? I don't think so.
SouthpawGuy Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 But isn't a 1988 model too early for a VIP2? VIP, the original version, used three 2 way mini switches D-VIP, the more recent version, used two 3 way mini switches So at a glance three minis = VIP ...... two minis = D-VIP
