bobmeyrick Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Back in December 2010, when I bought the 150 Special goldtop in a sale at Fuzz Music in Nottingham, the shop also had a 150 CM in Trans Black. Both were "new old stock". The other day I popped in to the "parent shop" (Guitar Base) on a completely unrelated matter, but asked if they still had the 150 CM. They did - it hadn't been sold and had been stored since then. The store owner (Colin) asked if I might be interested, and like a fool I said yes. He told me to come back today when they'd had a chance to give it a clean and set up. I went along and they'd done exactly that, including replacing the original Grover machine heads (which were looking a bit tired) with a new set. Schaller hardware and pickups, standard stuff. I spent a good half hour playing the guitar and found it to be very nice. I asked what they would be prepared to sell it for. The answer was a very reasonable £799, so out came the credit card... There are one or two little marks, but nothing serious. It's been a lovely sunny day, so when I got home I took some photos. One more thing - one of the staff (Andy) owns a 150 CM VSB, so I pointed him in the direction of the HOC. As they said in Spinal Tap, "None more black!"
Hfan Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Nice find, I like transblack as does my Lab. It's her color.
FredZepp Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Wow.. I haven't seen that combination before. Usually it's a 157 that I see in trans black. That has a great look with the black binding etc.... nice grab.
kidsmoke Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 unique! Dig the black binding and the tuning knobs. Patience is a virtue!
gpuma Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Good things come to those who wait (I am not sure it goes exactly like that, but you know what I mean)
skydog52 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Wow. Nice find. I've never seen that combination with black binding.
tbonesullivan Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Looks like there is some cracking along the binding. Is that a trick of the light? I heard that was the reason that they stopped using black binding on guitars.
H Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 As an aside, I noticed in the latest issue of Guitarist magazine that High End Guitars in Nottingham has reduced prices on several NOS (2008 or thereabouts) Heritages. They're still twice what you've just paid but a welcome piece of reality nonetheless!
hotfordcoupe Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Wow, that's some nice looking hunk of maple. That's the first one of those I ever saw.
brentrocks Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 i have never seen a cmobo like that before...that is KILLER!!!!
HANGAR18 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Looks like there is some cracking along the binding. Is that a trick of the light? I heard that was the reason that they stopped using black binding on guitars. That is fantastic! I really like the look of the black binding too! I would be interested in a guitar like that but I'd first like to know if there are any problems with black binding.
DetroitBlues Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Then there is hope for that beat up 140 Jack has!
bobmeyrick Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Looks like there is some cracking along the binding. Is that a trick of the light? I heard that was the reason that they stopped using black binding on guitars. The binding's OK - it must be a trick of the light. It was a very sunny day and the guitar was very shiny! Actually, now I look at the photos I see the grass needs cutting!
big bob Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Looks like trans Black/Blue. I think it looks Rocken!
bobmeyrick Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 That's a beauty, congratulations Thanks! Looks like trans Black/Blue. I think it looks Rocken!I think that's partly due to some reflection of the sky and partly due to overexposing by 0.7 stop to make the grain more visible. In the flesh, so to speak, it's decidedly black. Still Rocken though!
blueox Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 " . . . The other day I popped in to the "parent shop" (Guitar Base) on a completely unrelated matter, but asked if they still had the 150 CM. They did - it hadn't been sold and had been stored since then. The store owner (Colin) asked if I might be interested, and like a fool I said yes . . . " There's nothing foolish about that transaction. That's a rich look. Congratulations!
High Flying Bird Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 That was a good price. It's got a nice finish on it too. Congrats!
