H Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 The TonePros completely cover the indentation left by the Grovers. Just one extra screw hole to drill for each as the original Grover hole is in the right place. Looks nice with the stinger
H Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Time to re-string: Jimbob switched me on to D'Addario EXL110s. They give the same feel on a 150 as 10s on a Tele.
H Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 And here she is. Looks stunning. I'm happy
H Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 'Before and after' sound clips tomorrow. She's tuned a semitone up for tonight to stretch those new strings out.
Hfan Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Well done Howard. I approve of the tablecloth, kind of a "tiny bubbles" theme going on. Looks like it came out very nicely, the new tuners add a lot to the guitar, nice that they cover up the indentations as well, a neat job. How do the new pickups sound? And I'll say it again, that 150 is beautiful, didn't know it had a stinger.

Definitely hotter but I've got them sitting higher than the Schallers as I don't have the correct height adjustment screws for the long leg BBs.
DetroitBlues Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Looking good! I found out the hard way that schallers are short leg. I had to buy extra screws because of it...
yoslate Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Burstbuckers wired up. This 150 came from Wolfe's. Nice joints, Howard! And a fabulous looking (and I'll bet, sounding) 150. Nicely done!
H Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Nice joints, Howard! It's all down to the glucosamine sulphate, Rob
DetroitBlues Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Is that helping you fight off arthritis?
H Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Is that helping you fight off arthritis? Lol I'm 48 not 78!! I used to run a lot of 10Ks and the occasional half marathon and used GS as a preventative supplement just as lots of others did. No medical issues here
yoslate Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Love it when someone hijacks his own thread! Howard, the 150 is just stunning! Fred has a couple of 150's which I've always thought were definitive...great figure, great color! I've seen and played both. Yours is the equal of either of them! If you ever want to let that one go....
FredZepp Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Great results. And Thanks for posting the play by play pics, that's always cool to see. It's a beautiful 150... there's even nice mahogany for the back.

Thanks FZ I like to think that the pics might tempt someone to have a go themselves rather than pay a tech a lot of cash and miss their guitar for a few weeks. It's not that difficult to do most things.

By the time I'm 60, I may not be able to play...
H Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 And apologies to anyone waiting for the comparison clips. It was one of those days today and I got no playtime at all :-/ Maybe tomorrow.

Dale402 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Nice pics of the work H! Love the new tuners on it. Wondered how those would look. Thanks! Dale
kidsmoke Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Nice job, I think it looks great, and I agree wholeheartedly, we should do the job ourselves as much as possible. More and more, I love what the klusons do for the unbound heads on these guitars. I think it really balances the guitar out. great job!
Blunote Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Well, how do you think they sound compared to the original Schallers? I had that very set in my H150P for a year. I liked them, but put the Schallers back in because I liked them at least as much. I thought the Schallars had a bit less presence & sounded a bit more compressed when pushed. The BBs tended to sound more open and clear.
H Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Well well well, so these were yours? In this guitar, the Schallers sounded very 'vintage' and I liked the noises they made. The BBs went in 90% because they had the look and 10% on reputation. They're higher output than the Schallers and initially I had them sitting a bit too high (for me) as the Schallers' short leg adjustment screws were the only ones I could find. I've been through my parts box now and rectified that. Before I sorted out the height issue, I found them to have a little more clarity and drive at the bridge and to be a bit 'woofy' at the neck. Now they're at the right height (neck level with the mount, bridge about 3mm above the mount), I'm getting a slightly more complex and 'driven' tone from them which I tame by dropping the volume to 6/7 for rhythm work and reinstate to 9/10 for lead work. I prefer the bridge to the neck which is the opposite to my preference on the Schallers. I have the 'before' tones recorded and will do the 'after' tones very soon. The kids, all five, go back to school this week so I haven't had much 'me' time for a few days.
