PunkKitty Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 This is Brent's old 1985 Heritage H170 with a repaired headstock. Overall it's in good shape. It needs a fret level and a new nut. I installed a set of Wilde (Bill Lawrence) L-90s in it. It sounds and plays great. It has some scruffs, etc. Or, as we like to call it, mojo. There's a bit of checking in the finish. But it's really, really nice to play. It's not back friendly though. It weighs 9.8 pounds. But that's the price we pay for tone.
DetroitBlues Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Never tried blade pickups. How would you describe them? Congrats by the way.
PunkKitty Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 The design is a 1970s design from Bill. They sound like really crisp and clear PAFs. The neck is 4 heneries and the bridge is 6 heneries. That works out to be about 8k and 11k. I really like them. If I remembered I had them I wouldn't have ordered that set of Porters.
Hfan Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Congrats Ms Kitty, That is a classic, great top. I live that upper fret access. For heavey guitars I recommend a LaZ Boy recliner, you may doze off though..
FredZepp Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 That one has the classic Heritage look. The woods, the design , the finish , all are exceptional and have the Kalamazoo mojo in spades. Congrats and enjoy that sweet guitar.
eljay Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 For heavey guitars I recommend a LaZ Boy recliner, you may doze off though.. for all guitars i use my laz-e-boy recliner and dozing or power napping is part of the enjoyment!
MartyGrass Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Bill Lawrence is a genius. The pickups are very well designed. Bill left off the metal covers for improved upper frequency capture. Some people didn't and still don't like the look. But I find it elegant in its simplicity. PK, 9.8 lbs ain't so bad... the first half hour! That's some dense mahogany. How thick is the body? The most beautiful H157 I've had was 12 lb 10 oz. That's when I said "uncle". Even sitting with a padded strap got old in less than an hour. Maybe you'd be happier with a H170 LW?
PunkKitty Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 I sold my 170HW. This was 1/2 the price. I can deal with the weight.
heritagefan7 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 for all guitars i use my laz-e-boy recliner and dozing or power napping is part of the enjoyment! LOL! Congrats PK---awesome git. truly beautiful and like the pups too! I bet they sound great. enjoy.
H Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Nice! That guitar is the sort that our kids will be talking about in thirty or forty years, just like we talk about 50s Gibsons and Fenders.
blueox Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Congratulations on that H-170 with the full upper fret access! I've owned a G guitar from the 1980s with Bill Lawrence pickups (not L-90s) and his pickups have a super sound.
