Guest HRB853370 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I had a new pot installed in my 137 to replace one that had a bent shaft. I notice that the new pot offers a nice medium resistance when turning the knob, in contrast to the other 3 original pots that seem to turn almost too easy. The inconsistency bothers me. I guess I could replace the other 3 pots with new ones so they all have equivalent turning resistance. The guitar is a 2007 and had not been played very much. What could account for the original pots turning so easily? Perhaps they are just broken in?
DetroitBlues Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 If they are used frequently, they will wear out, some guitarists love that for volume swells. Eddie Van Halen sells a special "low friction" pot for that very reason.
PunkKitty Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 The new one could be a different brand than the others.
PunkKitty Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 My first thought when I saw the title of this thread was "how much pot can you put into the cavity of a 137".

heritagefan7 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 From what I hear, the more profitable path is to smuggle Heritage gits into Europe and sell them for the list...forget the pot. (at least the illegal kind)
High Flying Bird Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 My first thought when I saw the title of this thread was "how much pot can you put into the cavity of a 137". 3/4 of an ounce.... what? Different manufactures could be the deal or the old ones are broken in. You might forget about the difference in a few weeks of playing it.
fretless Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 my guess is they have been sprayed / cleaned with a pot cleaner like DeoxIT that would make them feel "easier" IMO if they are not scratchy or cutting out or anything like that it would fall under "if it ain't broke don't' fix it".

Kuz Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 OK, seriously, prior to 2007 Heritage used cheaper Mexican pots that had the "no friction" turn to them. They then transitioned over to the better CTS pot that have the more resistance when turning them. My 2006 GT 150 P90 has the older pot which I don't like. You just nudge them and they spin. All my other Heritages have the higher resistance CTS pots. FWIW, PRS uses the no friction pots.
