KBP Stentorian in Action

A little clip of something I'm screwing with in terms of an original. The main point here is that I recorded it using the KBP amp that Brian built for me last winter.

The octave parts were recorded on my 157, and the melody part was recorded with my Warmoth Strat on the bridge pup. The 157 is on the bridge pup too.

I used my firestudio mobile, and a tube preamp for the gits. The bass was recorded using my POD HD400 on the new ampeg flip top model they just put out. The bass itself is a Yamaha cheapy with J and P bass pups

the drums are Toontrack EX drummer.

I'm still learning what the heck to do with delay and verb on guitar parts etc, so that's what this little experiment was about, for me anyway.

Hope you dig the amps vibe, I really love it. No dirt boxes or anything here, just the amp.

Speaker used was a Warehouse guitar speakers Reaper 8ohm

Nice :) You a fan of The Cure?

Yes, actually!

I was also thinking this might have a vibe similar to the band Interpol. I suspect they're influenced by the cure as well.

sounds great, but you need a "real" drummer, not a Toontrack EX drummer!

Man, don't I wish! SERIOUSLY! I live on an island in Maine, and while there are, believe it or not, some ridiculously good drummers here (long story), I just don't have the space or the gear to record live drums. It's one of my dreams to be able to do that. IF, and it's a BIG IF, I can buy a house next year, then maybe it'll come true, but for now I'm stuck with EZ Dufus ...;)

Nice clips, Matt. I, too, thought of The Cure immediately, funny how the mind works.

Be careful what you wish for with the "real" drummer thing; EZ Drummers don't sleep on your couch, eat your food, and hit on your girlfriend....

This clip shows the amp off in a less affected setting, just a teeny tiny bit of delay on the guitar to widen it up a little in the mix

Matt, that amp sounds really terrific! Everything's there...in fine balance. I'm a fan of a good Deluxe, but what you have there goes beyond that. And your recordings are nicely done; you know what you're about. I'm hoping you'll motivate me. I have a bunch of stuff, sitting around on hard drives, at my friend's studio. I've wanted to post some here, but getting together with him to unearth it has been down my list. We spoke just this morning about pulling it out, updating it just a bit, maybe having the files mastered and producing coasters for some of my music pals. I know you're just doofing around, but I choose to see it as a personal challenge to me, to get up off of it. Hope the school year is proceeding well. I taught for almost ever.

yoslate,

I think that's awesome! I hope you are able to get into the studio and either update, or master what you've got and post it. I love talking about guitars and amps and gear, but the final use is what's more interesting to me. I also love hearing everyone's music! I'm still trying to figure it all out with regards to recording gear. What I have right now works well for what I'm trying to do, but I'm thinking of upgrading my set up in the next two months to attempt to get at that 'next level' of sounds quality. Sadly, I may have to sell some of my stuff in order to do that. You taught, as you stated, so you know why I'll have to sell stuff I have to get new stuff! Right now I'm nearly literally smacking my face against a wall trying to figure out what interface I want to go with, and whether or not I want to go all emulated amps or stick with recording the Stentorian live. My space has more to do with that than the amp itself, of course. I'm also wanting to treat the walls in my space, and I had auralex do a free analysis for me, so I know where to put stuff. The only catch is affording everything I really need to make this all work. It would probably be in the $3500 to $4500 price range to do everything I want; interface, mics, pre's, new monitors, acoustic treatment, outboard compression, and a summing amp. AGHHHHHH! Anyway, I hope I get to hear your stuff soon!

Peace
