noonesperfect Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I just bought my first Heritage (a 535) to be delivered in about a week. It has seen a bit of use and the finish could stand touching up to get rid of minor dings and scratches. Have any of you sent your toy back to KZoo to have them refinished? Maybe have the finish color changed? Could you give me an estimate of the cost and time? Any idea you could provide as to what it would take to buff the finish myself would be appreciated. I'm also looking for a Heritage case, so suggestions for that would be welcomed too. As soon as I get the delivery, I'll post photos. Thanks. Brad
mars_hall Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 You probably would want to get it done out of house as refinish is not a job in Heritage's regular business model. Pete Moreno, whose contact information is here on the site somewhere, used to work there I believe and has done excellent work for members here (269) 472-1126
DetroitBlues Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 My local guy refinished my old 140. Took awhile, but it was worth it. After:
Genericmusic Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Pete is renown for his painting abilities. He quite simply is the best.
tbonesullivan Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 cost and time will depend on what you want done. If it's not too bad you can probably just have it oversprayed and buffed out again. If you are in puget sound, you'll probably want to look for someone local who does refinishing in nitrocellulose. I'm sure there has to be some awesome guys up there.
noonesperfect Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 Thanks guys - I'll look around here first then. If anyone has suggestions for the Puget Sound area, I would love to hear about a good luthier close to home. Brad
Hfan Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 If it is honest playwear, I always vote to leave it and put the saved refinish $ towards your next Heritage, one is usually not sufficient. Also a couple dings on a guitar makes any new ones much less painful. And welcome.
NewGuy Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 The good folks (they are good) at Historic Makeovers asked me this very same question. 'Can I paint it?" Curious, I had asked about HM relic "prices" and that changed my mind. I already got a couple new doinks . A nitro top is good as gold . I would much rather buy another NOS Heritage too rather than pay for a refinish now. Happy hunting !
