mikemccue Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi, I just bought my first Heritage guitar. It's a used 575 described as having stock pickups. What is an easy way to identify the pickups when the guitar arrives? Can I just unscrew, and pull the pickups from the pickup rings to take a look? Are there any nuts behind the mounting rings that might fall away if I just try to pull the pickup for a quick look? I've done lots of work on solid body guitars but none on hollow body styles. Thanks for any advice you can share. best regards, mike
eljay Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 welcome, mike! i was going to suggest that you remove the cover from the control cavity to see what is written on the label. then i realized that 575s don't have control cavities, so my post stands only as a welcome to the HOC. somebody here with knowledge will show up soon to help you along.
chico Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi Mike welcome to HOC-land. There is no known antidote. First thing to do is look at the screws on the sides of the pickup. if they are "stock" Heritage pickups they are probably Schallers, and they have TWO screws on the side. Yes, the Heritage HRW upcharged pickup option is also TWO screws on the sides, but those guitars are also denoted with a white tip on the pickup selector switch. If they are Seymour Duncan SD59s then there is ONE screw on the side. Those were used a lot in H150s or H535s. But, odds are you have Schaller pickups, the "stock" heritage pickup of that time. PS some photos would be great and welcome! there is a vast knowledge base here and I am just one of the gawkers so wait for some more to chime in on your pickups.
tulk1 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 If it's not written on the label inside the body cavity, then pull the pickups - surrounds and all. Don't remove the pickup from the rings (surrounds). Pull it as an assembly. Welcome to the HoC, Mike. And yeah, pics are sort of required when talking about our guitars. It feeds the beasts, you know.
mikemccue Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks for the helpful replies. I'll try to post some pictures after it arrives. Thanks a bunch! best regards, mike
