Number8 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Would someone help me appreciate the differences between these models? I notice the difference in body style and size, but do the differences end there (assuming the same hardware is employed)? Why would someone prefer one over the other with regards to playability?
PunkKitty Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 There's some good info available here. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/info.htm

TalismanRich Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I've got a 140 and a 157. In terms of playability, they are similar, but the weight of the 140 is much less. If you have back issues, that's a real plus. The 150 had trap markers, the 140 has dots. Assuming the same pickups and hardware, they will cover the same general sonic landscape. The other option is the 150LW. It gives you the bigger body of the 150 with the lighter weight, using a fairly large chambered interior. This puts it a little closer to the Millennium in construction. The Millenniums usually have a maple back as opposed to the 140/150/157 which is mahogany with maple cap.
Number8 Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks TR...that along with PK's guidance should cover it.
Tammuz7000 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I just played both and loved the h 140. I am curious of the pickups that are put in theses. Do all the h140 have the same pickups and electronics from the factory. This one had 59 Duncan's and it sounded great. I loved the smaller body and how it played. Tom

Tom The ones I have seen have had Schallers and SDs...I'm sure there are other variations as well.
FredZepp Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 The H-140 has been made since Heritage's first year in 1985... at that point they were using Schaller hardware and pickups, now it is Seymour Duncan pickups and TonePros hardware. There is a first edition and second edition of the H-140, with different shapes. The first edition have the pointed cutaway and the second is shaped like a 150 , but with a dot neck and thinner body. They did re-introduce the first edition shape for the 25th Anniversary edition 140.. And here is the current version..
TalismanRich Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I like the sharper Florentine cutaway. That's about as much of a "pointy" guitar I want, though.
DetroitBlues Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Except the 1st editions were unbound necks (except for a few lucky examples out there)
peerless Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I have the first 140 2nd Edition made, bought from Jay Wolfe years ago. Great guitar. I have never played a 140 that was not outstanding. I have always been impressed by how pleased 140 owners are with their instrument. It seems to carry with it a very consistant tone that players love. THey can take a beating too as some of the early 140 from the 80's have. For a long time this model was one of the best kept secretes in tone. Not many folks paid it much attention as they go for the heavier 150 but the 140's consistantly sound awesome. I love the 150 as well. THere is not that much difference in tone. Shuffle a couple of 140s in with a few 150s and most people would not be able to tell. It fits well within the sound spectrum of the 150 but is lighter and to me, much more comfortable with killer balance. I play Bare Knuckle pickups in all my guitars because they sound so good. My 140 with its HRWs is the only guitar that never got or reallly needed the BKP treatment, but I do wonder what I set of Mules would sound like in that baby. Tim and I worked out a BK Mule neck pickup customized for a sligtly tweaked VHI for the bridge with my 140 in mind. It would have been killer sounding but at the very last minute I had a change of heart and just sold the one of a kind set to one my clients at my regular BKP price. Man he got a one of a kind set of pickups for his own Heritage 140. I like the HRWs in my 140. I think Ren at Heritage spent a lot of time picking and listening to make sure the first 140 2nd edition sounded amazing and its almost like those pickups were tuned for that guitar. peerless

Tom Hi: Since you played both, I would like to hear your opinions as to how the 140 and 150 compare in terms of: Tone clarity sustain Does either guitar sound bigger than the other, more punch, etc? Thanks
