DavesNotHere Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 This VIP-1 arrived today. I picked it up really cheap and it's already looking like it's going to be my daily player. It's definitely a player, but from a few steps away it looks fantastic. It has a few dings and a fair amount of checking on the rim and the body is an ASB '86 and the neck is an '87. But it sounds perfect. It's exactly what I've been looking for. The neck is straight, the frets have lots of life left, the action is low with no buzzing anywhere. I haven't taken the pickup out, but it looks like an original Schaller, and it sounds great! Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the VIP-1?
PunkKitty Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Awesome. Is this the one that's been on ebay for a month or so?
SouthpawGuy Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Very nice, congrats ! Not sure if this is of any help, a couple of photos of the factory wiring in my VIP2 Bear in mind that it's a lefty guitar and has three mini switches.
Alfonzo Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Paul, you always amaze me with your guitars, unbelievable. Never heard of a VIP before today, congrats, both beautiful!
mars_hall Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 With a single Humbucker and two switches, about the most you can do is a coil tap and a phase inversion of the stud coil. Look those two up on Guitar Electronics and you are probably home.
Hfan Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Nice hunk of wood there Dave congrats. Rothstein guitar parts has lots of circuits as well, oh and Seymour Duncan.
DetroitBlues Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 That looks awesome! You should have it routed and add another pickup!
FredZepp Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Nice one.. I believe that is the one from the guy near me in Cincinnati. I was thinking about calling and finding how low he'd go, but I've already got a VIP-1... so it would be redundant. The tremelo on these is really a blast and they play great. Mine has a SD Blackback in place of the Schaller. I can't help you on the wiring... mine isn't right after I replaced a mini toggle.... it's like yours is now ( I think ) , the phase inversion doesn't work.
High Flying Bird Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 You should have brought it over last Saturday and showed it to us and our new drummer.
brentrocks Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 that is super cool....you dont know how many times i looked and that and had my mouse on the BIN button
HANGAR18 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Awesome. Is this the one that's been on ebay for a month or so? A lot longer than a month. A few us us were watching it but that's about it.
DavesNotHere Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Thanks. Yes, that's the one that's been on ebay for quite a while. I just got rid of my Twin and had a little bit of cash left over and it was just calling my name. I'm really loving it so far. For under $400 and free shipping, I could hardly go wrong. And, it's poplar. I don't want Marv and Jim anywhere near it with a knife! And Ron, what was wrong with the old drummer?
FredZepp Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 ... your VIP-1 photos were inspiring enough to make me grab mine for some playing last night. They are are really nice playing guitars and that tremolo is a blast...
High Flying Bird Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 And Ron, what was wrong with the old drummer? He couldn't play punk.
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Where do you find all these "non-standard" Heritages Dave?
DavesNotHere Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Where do you find all these "non-standard" Heritages Dave? Does one find the sound of a child's laughter? Does one find the freshness of a spring day? Does one find the sweet smell of your lover as you awake? Does one find the heady scent of a rose in bloom? Nay, I say these things find you Grasshopper. So you ask, how do I find the Heritage? Must I answer? I answer thus: uh, I know a guy

totonka Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I saw that in his shop a week or so ago. It is a nice and unique Heritage. Good on you for preserving that piece of Heritage history. I know you will enjoy it.
