Anyone put a Tune-o-matic on their 575?

I've always thought about doing this with my 575. I think that Gibson 175s have the tune-o-matic bridges, if I may not be mistaken? I like the sound of the wood bridge on mine, but the improved intonation would be a big plus as well. Anyone do this with theirs? I like to see the results, as well as any pictures.

Bought mine used from Wolfe guitars and had the standard bridge changed to a TOM, at no extra charge by the way. I wanted the TOM for intonation reasons, as I'm not really a jazzer, and it may at some point be fitted with 10's, although I'm still using it with 12s.

After purchasing mine from Wolfe's, I took my Custom 575 to my luthier who ordered a different compensated rosewood saddle and the intonation is next to perfect.

Hi there!

I'm also interested in putting a tune-o-matic on my newly acquired 575 - but the question is where to get one from?

The rosewood base fitted to the 575 has 76mm bridge post spacing, which isn't a standard size, so just fitting a Gibson (or whatever) TOM / ABR-1 isn't an option.

Here in Germany I've found two aftermarket options:

One is just the rosewood base with posts, but unfortunately this one is shaped differently to the Heritage base and in my eyes not very elegant.

The second option is a base with TOM, but here the TOM is of the asian variety with thicker posts and screw head slots.

Are there any alternatives available - possibly even from Heritage? Theoretically the TOM assembly from a Gibson ES-175 would also do, but the customer support from Gibson here in Germany is just about non-existant!

Any tips would be very welcome!

Cheers

Hi again,

I think I'm close to answering my own question!

What I'm looking for is Gibson / Allparts part number PBBR-055, which is a nickel-finish Tune-o-Matic on a rosewood bridge. I think it's a spare part for an ES-175, but the rosewood base looks very similar to the one on my 575. The bad news is that I can't find one anywhere in Germany :-(

Cheers

Hi!

The problem with getting stuff sent from the US is that you usually end up paying

1) horrendous postage

2) import duty - usually something like 4%

3) 19% sales tax on postage & the item

If I can't find one here or somewhere else in Europe I'll get one from the US - but I'd rather not pay all that tax!

I've found a shop here in Germany that has one in stock - which I've also ordered!

Now looking forward to fitting that and my usual Ernie Ball 11s + the strap locks I also ordered!

Cheers
