schundog Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 This morning a black cat ran right in front of my car as I left the subdivision. "OOH, bad luck," I thought. I had just emailed Punkitty about her Heritage guitars for sale, suggesting that, if, on a long shot, I got enough money from the guitar/amp combo I was getting ready to take to the pawn shop, I MIGHT be interested in meeting her in Joliet, IL, 90 miles for me, probably the same TIME distance for her, later today to check out the Prospect and the 140 she had for sale. She agreed in a later email, and I got what I needed out of my gear to make a deal on ONE guitar or the other. Monica met me at the Joliet (John Belushi's Joliet Jake, eh?!) Guitar Center, and showed me both guitars. MAN, I wish I could have picked them both up, but I had to choose. I asked her if we could take the Prospect in to GC to plug it in, and she agreed. ">https:// The 140 was stunning, especially with the Trap inlays. I plugged the Prospect into both a Fender Excelsior amp and a Mustang II that were nearby, and dug how it sounded through both. Monica said it DID feed back, but, once I got it home, I found that it needed to be COAXED to feed back, and only then at higher volumes, pointed at the amp, and NEVER distastefully, haha. While the Prospect had Schaller hardware and a few bumps and bruises, I was very impressed. I gave Monica her asking price, shook hands, and parted ways. I bolted home, plugged her into both my Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue and my KBP810 Tweed Deluxe, and got very different, yet pleasant results from both. This Prospect has Duncan 59s and new Grover tuners. I can't say I found a LOT of difference in the tone between it and my 535/555, despite the smaller body. Very comfortable to play, and did so for 1-2 hours at high volume, as I was alone in the house for a rare occasion! Here are a couple more pics I took tonight; I'll try to get some better one's soon in natural light. A few pics here showing the difference in shape and size between a 535/555 and a Prospect Oh, Yeah, remember that bad luck cat?! Well, when I went in to GC to try out the Prospect, I realized I had left my pick in the car. Punkitty offered me one of hers, which I used, and absentmindedly, put in my pocket as we left.... I had to laugh as I was emptying my pockets this evening to find my "black cat" had proved to be a GOOD luck omen.... Here's PK's Pick...
DavesNotHere Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Nice score Brian. I hate that Monica had to part with it, but at least it's still in the family. And PK, that 140 is spectacular!
Gitfiddler Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Brian, that was a great deal for you and that sweet smiling PK! It's a cool thing when HOC'ers keep their Heritages in the family.
H Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Nice I like the 'family shot' with your other guitars
Bon Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Send that cat over here I could do with a bit of luck like that.Nice photos of some very nice guitars, well done all.
PunkKitty Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I'm glad it worked out for both of us, Brian. Enjoy the Prospect.
skydog52 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I'm starting to think you have more GAS than me Brian. I'm glad it's still in the fold. Congratulations to both of you for making it work.
Kuz Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 NICE Brian, looks like the perfect little Rock & Roller!!!!
eljay Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 welcome to the prospect owners club, brian! good energy to you and peakay.
Keith7940236 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Congratulations Brian, that is one sweet Prospect
pressure Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 And another note: PK is a new member that I met for the first time at PSP5. She was great to talk to in person and has been fab on this board.
DetroitBlues Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Sweet Brian, love the guitar, both would be great. Can't go wrong with either, so no matter what, you made a great choice. Congrats!
FredZepp Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Great pic with the 555 ! Seeing those two guitars, it would be a very tough choice to pick one.. .. you certainly didn't go wrong with that Prospect. It is sweet. And the black cat on the pick... turns out to be a good omen. Nice.
tulk1 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Welcome to the Prospect Club! The Prospect is my fav Heritage. Good to see this one stayed in the family.
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Looks like GAS gotcha again! Buy the wife a new pocketbook or pair of shoes to even things out. Monica is sooo photogenic! What a great smile! Congrats and glad things worked out for both parties. I didn't, however, realize Monica was selling off her Heritage arsenal!! Whats up with that?

I'm guessing funds for a custom order...
PunkKitty Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I'm guessing funds for a custom order... More like funds to pay the mortgage.
schundog Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 Thanks, everyone. Richard, I concur with your analysis; PK is a very cool person, and a real asset to the HOC. Kenny, you are partly responsible for this; I figure if a "real" musician like you says his Prospect is his favorite Heritage, I'd better at least check it out! The "different" shape of the horns and body took a little getting used to, but now I kinda dig it. I had been wanting a guitar LIKE this since Gibson came out with the 339, but I had heard about some QC issues with the 339s. I'm very happy with this thing! Oh, and Will, no worries, I let Wifey go out to Utah to visit our neighbor couple that moved out there last month. Otherwise, how could I have explained to her that I was meeting another woman up near Chicago?! haha. "SERIOUSLY, honey, it's about a GUITAR!" Hell, by this point, she'd probably believe me.....
Horace Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Nice Prospect Shundog ! That 150 looks nite too. (PK, I'm still really digging the RIC 650.) Horace
fxdx99 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Brian - you DO know how to spin a tale. A black cat's tail, evidently... Congratulations to a couple of very cool HOC cats. Loved the read. Love the pics.
blueox Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Congratulations on your Prospect! From your report, it has great sounds as well as obvious looks.
HANGAR18 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 The 140 was stunning, especially with the Trap inlays. Agreed. That H140 is impressive looking and has a lot going for it. I can't wait to see what sort of guitars are still available once some money returns to my pocket.
