tulk1 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 little late, and not exactly what you're thinking Aged Nickel.... Top wrapped ... sweet!!! Can't remember, are you just wrapping a reg tail piece, or was that one designed for it?
guitarplayntaylor Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I personally think heritage headstocks look just a tad better when they're bound and inlaid, ala the Alex scholknic model. Check it that's what I getting on my 150when I have the funds to order!
kidsmoke Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Top wrapped ... sweet!!! Can't remember, are you just wrapping a reg tail piece, or was that one designed for it? That's a Faber aluminum TP, standard type. So actually, not aged nickel, I guess that would just be the ABR Bridge and the pickup covers!
Billgelder Posted November 4, 2012 Author Posted November 4, 2012 I would like to thank all of you for your help. I do appreciate your time and advice.
rockabilly69 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 To go with the aesthetic of the Burst, I would have it built with a Pigtail ABR bridge and tailpiece in nickel finish. I would also spec a one-piece back, a long neck tenon, and Throbak pickups (they can be wired 4 wire). To me this would take on any R9! Good luck on your build!
Bonefish Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 If the order hasn't been placed, I do agree that a bound headstock with inlays looks much better than std headstock. Regardless, it's cool how you're taking the standard 150 and adding a few customizations to really make it your own. Also, I think the coil tapping is going to give you some killer versatility.
JackBaruth Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Heritage will do SS frets for $30? Memo to self: pay that money on every future Heritage I buy
tulk1 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Heritage will do SS frets for $30? Memo to self: pay that money on every future Heritage I buy Is that because they will last longer? Or something in the tone? Never had any SS frets ... that I'm aware of.
Billgelder Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Is that because they will last longer? Or something in the tone? Never had any SS frets ... that I'm aware of. Hey Tulk1 Yes SS frets last about 4 times longer. There is no change in tone that I can tell. I have heard that SS frets are a little brighter. but this is from luthiers, and they do not like to use SS frets do to the fact that it takes longer in is hard on their tools. The SS frets do fell a little slippery then normal frets. The vibratos and bendings feel easier, but that is up the players taste.
Billgelder Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 I pick it up last night. will post pix
Sticky Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Very cool thread, looking forward to the pics! A question about the binding. Heritage binding looks to be a stark white that stays white. Is it possible to order the binding in a creamier, slightly yellowed white?

Is it possible to order the binding in a creamier, slightly yellowed white? Yes... they do cream binding.. sometimes on mine, they photograph whiter than it really is in person.
