flattop
I have a Carvin x100b amp with 5881 power amp tubes and a Carvin Belaire with el84s. When I play through either amp there is alot of hissing and popping, mostly when playing hollow bodied guitars. My 575 seems worse than the epi casino. Here's the crazy part. It seems to only happen at my house, not at a gig or practice. Any advice?

H
Could it be the electricity supply? Do you use a power conditioner at home?
flattop
The electrical is what I was suspecting. Also not sure how grounding comes into play. Some time it seems like I may be picking up a radio station or something. The power conditioner sounds like a good Idea.
Steiner
Do you use the same cords at home and rehearsal? I agree with Tulk1, very likely cables.
Guest HRB853370
Do you have some static remover sheets for clothes dyers you can use? And what would he use those for Mr. Spectrum??
tulk1
And what would he use those for Mr. Spectrum?? Lots of time static builds up on the scratch plate. By wiping it off with a dryer sheet you remove the static, and the reason for static. It's not permanent, but will stop it for a while.
flattop
The static pickguard thing was happening somewhat with the casino with its plastic pickguard but that was not a big deal. As far as cables go I use the same ones for practice and gigs and no problems.
tbonesullivan
have you tested the ground that you are playing into? Also remember that you yourself build up static, and when touching the guitar it finds a quick route to the ground. Have you also cleaned the pots, inputs, outputs, tube sockets, etc recently? how old are the amps? also old tubes make more noise than new ones. bolero
do you have a 3rd amp to try? it could even be a dimmer switch in the room, those are notorious for noise/interference...right up there with neon signs
