MartyGrass Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I picked up my H576, Millie Eagle 2000, and H157 from my luthier, Aaron Cowles. He made an ebony finger rest for the Millie to match the one he made for my other Millie. Here they are. He charged only $75 to build and install it. He swapped the 59s out of my H157 for Seth Lovers. He also buffed the guitar out. No pics. $60 Lastly, he put Alumitones in the H576. This was a little complicated because the wiring instructions (4 wires) had the wrong colors listed. After a brief chat with tech support, no problem. But the pups were installed into an archtop, which is harder than something with a control cavity. $50. I will post separately on the Alumitones.
Kuz Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Has Aaron seen the going luthier prices these days???? I hope he is doing his work for the love of the craft and doesn't need the money that bad. He could EASILY double what he charged you and it would still be fair. I have never met him, he must be a great guy!
DetroitBlues Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I like those custom PG's. Good choice on the pups too.
Keith7940236 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I'm anxious to hear what you think of the Alumitones. Didn't you say they were working on a floater version?

I have never met him, he must be a great guy! He has 7 Heritages in the shop now. One was Marv Lamb's Golden Eagle that has a new owner. There is a Super Eagle, too. But the most interesting is a H357 that is there to shave the neck down. I suggest that anyone going to the next PSP consider reserving time for either Aaron or Pete Moreno to do their repairs and mods. They can do same day work.
eljay Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 i commented in the other thread about how nice the alumnitones look on your 576. looking some more made me realize they have a nice art deco appearance. maximum shizzle!
MartyGrass Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 I'm anxious to hear what you think of the Alumitones. Didn't you say they were working on a floater version? If you called and asked for a floater, they could probably get you one. The prototype should be done by now. There is no big market for floating pickups, so I understand their delay.

I have never met him, he must be a great guy! Aaron has a very low overhead. His shop is modest. He has NO computers and no employees. It is not fancy there at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he walks to work. A second factor is that he is very fast with his hands and gets things right the first time. But I do believe he likes working and gabbing with customers. He is very old school, and I like that. I enjoy his pragmatism and plain talk. He took out Seth Lovers from my H576 and put in the Alumitones. He played the guitar before and after. So I asked him what he thought of the new pups since he never had seen them before. He said there's not a lot of difference. I was surprised of course. When I got home and played the H576, it was obvious that there is a substantial difference. But his assessment is consistent with his general impression that we obsess over electronics instead of skills.
nicknickhall Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I like the look of the alumatones in there.
Gitfiddler Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 For his prices and quality, I wouldn't mind shipping my gits to him if I needed something special done to them. Very nice work on each of your gits, Mark.
2bornot2bop Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Those Alumatone's look futuristic, while at the same time very art deco!
