Guest HRB853370 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'll be plugging in to this little beauty within the next couple of days!! can't wait to hear what it's all about. You sound like DB now!!
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Whats the diff between the 5F and the 5E3? Watts the wattage?
kidsmoke Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 You sound like DB now!! i suppose I do. With my pending 5F1 purchase, PK extended the invite to give it a whirl, and I intend to. So sorry I couldn't hide my excitement!

kidsmoke Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 You ordered one from KBP too? So what is the diff between the 5F1 and the 5E3 circuit? Nope...check this thread...we simply coincidentally both went this direction simultaneously. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/19724-seek-input-5f1-experience/page__pid__262158?do=findComment&comment=262158 The 5E3, is the slightly higher powered, but similar, circuit of the same vintage (mid 50's), originally called the Tweed Deluxe, and was an 18W circuit. The guy who built mine, in that thread above, is currently developing a 5E3/5F1 hybrid head which to me sounds very very cool. May be the KBP build I've been waiting for, as he'll make highly detailed directions available. The amp kit will be a 5E3/5F1 hybrid. It will be able to switch between a single 6v6 in Class A single ended output, or two 6v6 in AB push-pull output. It will also have a few other options that make it go completely "Champ" or completely "Deluxe". If you turn the tone knob full turn CCW, it will switch out the tone stack for a more champ-like tone. There's a "cut" knob that controls the amount of negative feedback from the output transformer to the phase inverter. If you turn the cut knob full turn CCW, it will switch out the feedback loop and add the cathode cap to ground on the phase inverter for a more deluxe-like tone.
kidsmoke Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Addendum: fxdx shared this link on my other thread, features Larry Carlton, revisiting his classic Steely Dan rig, a 69 ES335 straight into a 5E3 Tweed. http://mr335.tv/?channel=steely&videofile=mr335/steely/335blues
big bob Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'm thinking of building a 5e3 amp with bigger transformers and a pair of 6l6s,

212Mavguy Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'm thinking of building a 5e3 amp with bigger transformers and a pair of 6l6s, Nik does great kits, nice iron and parts. Or you can get just the kit and source your iron domestically from somebody like Hammond. Also an online forum like this one for Ceriatone owners, plenty of tech help available there or from Ceriatone for builders of their kits. http://www.ceriatone.com/productSubPages/AC5X3BigDeluxe/AC5X3Kits.htm Personally owning two of his D-clone amps, I'd vouch for his stuff any day.
