Tammuz7000 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I played 4 Heritage guitars and all were nice..a h137, h140, h150 and h535. I loved how they all sounded but had a question on the setups. These were all new guitars and the H140 and H535 seen to play the best. I loved the sound of the p90s but the h137 didnt play anywhere near as nice as the h140. The H535 played great as well and the H150 was ok. The h137 played ok but it seemed the H140 and the h535 both just played awesome. my question is can all of these necks be set up to play in a similar way in terms of action and feel. I would have thought the H137 and the h140 would have played the same? So is this just the variation that came from the factory and is this a set up issue that can be easily adjusted? I been thinking of a h137 but when the h140 played so much better it kind of worried me if i get one used. Any thoughts on this one? -Tom
yoslate Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 The nut, fretwork, truss rod adjustment, bridge (string height) and tailpiece adjustment, string gauge all provide a wide variety of issues which might be addressed, in varying combinations in doing a particular setup, to give a guitar a particular playability. It's physics, not voodoo....

bluesgolfer Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Each should be able to be setup to your tastes.
H Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 It's extremely rare that I play a guitar in a music shop that is set up to my taste. As others have said above, getting a guitar the way you like it is a reasonably short piece of work if the guitar is in good shape and built well.

Tammuz7000 Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 I guess my question is can a h137 be set up to play just like the H140 was in the store..Seeing how they are brand new guitars from the same company I thought that they would be set up in a similar fashion. I really liked the sound of the H137 but liked the way the H140 played. They seemed like similar necks but played way differently. I dont know what strings come from the factory as well.

The difference would only be the neck carve.
Tammuz7000 Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 Thanks. This makes sense. I was thinking in terms of guitar makers such as Martin whose string height and neck adjustments are set up the same at the factory. The H140 might have had those adujstments done at the store and it would be nto be a big deal to set up the action as you see fit on a Heritage.
yoslate Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Tammuz, a decent, attentive, thoughtful tech should be able to nail "your" setup for you all day long, on almost every guitar you own.
