602a Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I bought a Heritage 150 from Jimmy Wallace and was told it had a long tenon. I also called and talked to Ren when it came in, because of the hump in the pickup cavity, and he said they don't trim them like the Gibby's so I never worried about it. I sold the guitar to a member telling him it had a Heritage long tenon. He sent a picture back of a regular tenon and it does look alike. I am really puzzled as to if Wallce was wrong, I doubt Ren was wrong or If I was dupped. Either way I'm gonna make it right for the member that bought it. But "I gott's know".
FredZepp Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I took a bunch of videos that show the long tenon and intend to make a short vid showing that... but I haven't done it yet. In the factory tour vid , there is at least one shown at the 3:00 mark... Remember that H-150's with P-90's won't have the long tenon.
602a Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Thanks Fred mine doesn't look like that Mine has a high piece of wood on neck cavity. I'll post a picture in the am.
bolero Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 hard to see as it's black on black...but there is a seam on both sides where the heel extends right in to the edge of the route, at the bottom of the pup cavity
HANGAR18 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I had learned about the "long tenon" concept from the Wolfe Guitars camp before I went to the factory. So when I was there, I actually happened to talk to one of the guys who was right in the middle of fitting a neck to an H150 and I asked him about the subject and stated that I wanted to see what that long tenon thing was all about. I got to see a couple of tenon samples and he said that when it comes to an H150, that there is not much difference between the length of a long tenon and regular tenon length, and that he didn't think that it really mattered a lot for the H150. But on other models of guitar (if memory serves, hollow bodies I believe) that is where it makes a bigger difference because the tenon length on those guitars are typically a lot shorter.
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 They say that athletes with long tendons perform better, so I guess guitars would too!!!
FredZepp Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Thanks Fred mine doesn't look like that Mine has a high piece of wood on neck cavity. I'll post a picture in the am. A regular (or short) tenon does not extend past the end of the fretboard. The long tenon will extend beyond the fretboard into the pickup cavity..
602a Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Anyone got a shot of a cavity of a regular 150. This guitar is one of the first in 2011 that was suppose to have it according to Wallace. It's a stange hump of wood kinda offset. I wish I was at home to post picture but someone has to fight these fires. Ha Ha, just kidding I'm past that stage of my job, now I just make sure it's done right. Paid my dues in the last 28 years.
High Flying Bird Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Candy asses! I got your long tenon right here.....
skydog52 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Yeah I heard you have a long one from Lance. Don't know how he knows or want to! Beauty!
602a Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 That's one fine Zebra neck Tenon it's so long. Here's my cavity shot guess I was misinformed.
FredZepp Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Yeah... that's a tough one..... as Boleros post shows, sometimes they can be hard to see, but I don't see a long tenon in your pic.
