makam Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 These days I tried to complete and put together a Heritage Hollow Body Guitar review. As a hollow body guitar enthusiast, I tried to put together some fine Heritage archtops in an as much more objective presentation. The sound captured professionally, not from the camera mic and the recording have done at the same time, with all the guitars loaded with flatwound 0,12 strings, using the same pick and the same amplifier settings. There is no audio editing here, just a little reverb from the amp, so to have a real and clear view about this exceptional archtops.http://www.makisablianitis.com/en/video-clips.htmlStay tuned and subscribe as more video's will follow.Hope you enjoy...Makis
FredZepp Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 That's some great stuff.. It's very enjoyable to listen to and to compare the different Heritage models. I love the recording quality... Fantastic.
Genericmusic Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 You got some chops man. Very cool. Thank you for posting.
skbaily Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Great rendition of Fly Me to the Moon, and a unique opportunity to hear the different voices of these instruments. Please do keep them coming!
H Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Great playing and a fantastic way to hear the differences. The Sweet 16 was my favourite
Keith7940236 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Thank you, it was very interesting to hear the differences among the various guitars. It would be interesting to know which version of the Heritage floater was on the Sweet 16. If I remember correctly, there were three versions over the years of that pickup.
eljay Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 all delightful, with a nod to the super eagle. thank you for sharing your talent with us!
bolero Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 wow those were great!! what amp did you use? sounds fantastic, nice playing!! I notice the mic overloaded on the loudest bits, on the super eagle. how did you record them?
Teeky Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I did enjoy: superb arrangement - thanks for sharing. Great separation too. I preferred the slightly more mellow tone of the GE. Of my 2, my GE is brighter than the 575 (which I imagine to be closer to the Sweet 16). I guess there are so many variables - tone woods and different pickup models to name but two. How many more hollow bodies are we going to get treated to?
schundog Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Wow! My takeaway from that comparison is that there are no WRONG answers when it comes to Heritage hollowbodies. Thanks very much for taking the time to record those and post them.
Ned Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Thank for the excellent playing and recording. I am curious which instrument was your favorite and why. Very nice indeed, and an accomplishment to get all those guitars together.
DetroitBlues Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Great videos, fantastic playing. Can't believe I can hear a difference...
Gitfiddler Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Makis~ Both recordings sounded fantastic! I did not have a preference but I'd be interested in your own comments. You are yet another talented player from Greece here on the HOC. I look forward to more recordings from you.
FredZepp Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 There are a couple of other Heritages to compare to at his link also ...
rockabilly69 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I may be in the minority here, but, I personally think the H550 is the one for this song. It has just the right amount of rolloff on the high end while still possessing great clarity on the chords! For my tastes the floating pickups are hair too bright for the song and style. By the way, GREAT playing! But, I'd be happy to own anyown of those dual humbucker rigs!
soybean Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Very nice and thanks for taking the time. What amp were you playing through?
makam Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 Thank you very much, all of you. For the recording, I used a Fender silverface twin reverb. As for my favorite, in terms of shape and size is the Golden Eagle and H 550. The Super is a bit big when you play sitting, but there is no problem when you play standing... and the Sweet 16 has the most manageable size. In terms of sound, it depends on the style of music and your personal taste. For funky, bluesy jazz, the sweet 16 (and floaters in general) is unbeatable. The Golden Eagle can do everything well, with the floating pickup having more pronounced highs and the fixed pickup resembles the sound of the classic humbucker L5. As for the Super, it has a fantastic acoustic sound with more pronounced bass.

Horace Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Wow! My takeaway from that comparison is that there are no WRONG answers when it comes to Heritage hollowbodies. Thanks very much for taking the time to record those and post them. +1
