Trevlett Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Hey guys, Sorry that i've not shown my face around here since my well received NGD Video! Ive been busy tweaking my new H150 and have got it to a place where im pretty happy. I've swapped out the stock Schaller pickups with Bareknuckle Mules, pio caps and 50's wiring. Much more "vintage"sound, very open/clear and really quite "honky" which im digging. I was heading towards Claptons BB tone and im all over it now! So to the shredding, It has the stock Schaller bridge/tail and im finding that the exposed twisted string ends that land between the bridge and tailpiece are slowly eating away at the skin on the outer edge of the palm. Does anyone else experience this or am I just being a girl? Coming from Strat's and PRS where the twisted ends are hidden away its quite a nuisance.. The string (Rotosound) ends are tucked as well as they could possibly be so I dont think different strings would help and its leaving a dusting of me all over the pickups and under the bridge. Should I "take a concrete pill and harden the F up" or swap it out for something more comfy? Let me know your thoughts... Trev
SouthpawGuy Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Just change the tailpiece, all of mine that came with the Schaller one were replaced.
Trevlett Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 Thank Southpaw, What would you recommend?
H Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I'd recommend the locking Tonepros LPNM04 set (T3BP bridge, T1ZS tailpiece) - the N in the code denotes nickel. There are other finishes available: chrome, gold, black, etc. Alternatively, tie some petrol-soaked rags to your ankles so the ants can't climb up and bite your candy-ass Just kidding
schundog Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Crank the saddle adjustment screws on your Strat all the way so that there is about 1/3 inches sticking up on each saddle, then strum away recklessly for 5 minutes. THEN, and ONLY THEN, will you understand pain, haha. Seriously, though, I like the Schaller hardware's feel, but I know I'm somewhat in the minority. Maybe I'm just too cheap to change! When I've had a threaded end of a string poking my finger, I've tried to snip off the offending bit of string, or slap on a whole fresh set. Good luck!

SouthpawGuy Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Thank Southpaw, What would you recommend? Heritage uses Tonepros as stock these days I'd go with those. PunkKitty may have another other suggestion though ...

Trevlett Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 And just what is so wrong about being a girl??? Nothing wrong with being a girl, Girls are fun.....but I'd make a rubbish girl! Looks like i'll go for the TP though I dont dislike the Schaller stuff other than turning strings into a cheese shredder.. Cheers Trev

mtpatty Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 tonepros are awesome- you will not regret that decision!
Blunote Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I'm not understanding how the tonepro's would be any better. Wire wrapped ends are just as exposed as with the schaller tailpiece. I must also rest my strumming hand differently because I never have contact with string ends. I have noticed the first saddle on the tonepro bridge is rather sharp against the outside of my strumming hand.
DetroitBlues Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I rest on the bridge itself. That way I'll avoid the wrapped wire on the tailpeice. But I don't like the schaller stuff. Eddie Van Halen does, he uses them on his hard tail EVH Wolfgang.

Using something like the TonePros type should completely hide the winds inside the stoptail. There would be no wire to scrap on! The Schaller tailpiece lets the wire be exposed. If you could change the stoptail, and keep the Schaller roller bridge you might solve both issues.
Blunote Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Yep, you are correct. I should have looked more closely at my other guitar that have the TB stop tail.
