MartyGrass Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I thought I was done, but now I am. This is a new Golden Eagle, one of the last Floyd put a finish on. It has the fancy pants wood package, block inlays, a custom ebonized Heritage tailpiece (the last one on Earth), a 4 point mounted Seth Lover, a custom bridge, a rim mounted jack and a 1 3/4" nut. The dishing on the back is more pronounced that the usual GE. There is no cupid's bow either. The elimination of this is based on ideas similar to the long tenon discussion. Some old jazz players, Johnny Smith for one, and archtop builders, Benedetto for one, believe that the neck should extend into the body further to transmit neck vibes better to the sound board. The cupid's bow truncates this. This compromises form over function. I played it about a month ago. There is nothing not to like, unless you prefer skinny necks. As Ren put it, the neck is a big one.
H Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Beautiful guitar From Patrick's collection, I'd assume from the photos.
Genericmusic Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Last incoming ever??? I've told myself that too. Very nice guitar by the way.
Keith7940236 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Wow, congratulations, that is a beautiful guitar. Does the pronounced dish have an influence on the projection?
MartyGrass Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Wow, congratulations, that is a beautiful guitar. Does the pronounced dish have an influence on the projection? I don't know. But it makes the flames look cool.
Keith7940236 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I don't know. But it makes the flames look cool. AMEN to that!!!
Gitfiddler Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 OMG!!! To me that is the perfect Golden Eagle! Blonde?.........................check Choice Woods?.............check Big Neck?......................check Single P'up?..................check 4 Point contact?............check Seth Lover?..................check Outer rim knobs?..........check Ebony tailpiece?...........check Marty, play it in good health!
Singerman Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Wow, what a stunning instrument, very classy. You may spend as much time sitting around looking at it as playing it. For some reason, even though I'm not a jazz player, I've always wanted a jazz guitar - just for the work-of-art aspect. So far I've been able to resist the urge to actually buy one, but photo spreads like this don't help, nope, not one bit.

FredZepp Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 a stunning example ... the fine quality of this instrument speaks for itself.. beautiful.
Kuz Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 SO is this your guitar or Patrick's? I thought it might be Patrick's because of the ebony plate in the trapeze tailpiece. Either way it is incredible.
DC Ron Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Well...nothing not to like indeed! That is one HECK of back carve. Nice!
