fxdx99 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 oh... my... god... Can't believe you're getting that 525, John. Congrats!!!! I'd eyed that one a couple times. Love the natural finish and those P90s gotta sound great in it. Awesome. Looking forward to your tone review next week - the 525 thru the Chicago Blues Box... OH YEH BABY!!!!!!!! 8)
pushover Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Is this what all this fuss was about? Sheesh.. I figured it would at least have to be something special. Is this all? it's not even pink Psych > Nice axe.. I'm really curious to hear how that sounds with those PuPs.. In the mean time, I suspect you've got some pacing and finger nail biting to do while you wait for the delivery truck to arrive.. Congrats.. and enjoy!
Thundersteel Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Nice one! I've always thought about getting one, but I wish they put in block inlays rather than the dots.
Kuz Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks everyone. I hope you enjoyed my little games >! This high flamed 525 is an '07 and actually a few hundred less than the less/non flamed blond '08 522 at Wolfes. I'm almost afraid there is something wrong with it, so beautiful and not gobbled up yet. Graham assures me there is nothing wrong, it's better looking in person, most guys just like the vintage subdued look, blah, blah,... I really wanted a 525 with the tuneamatic attached to the top instead of on the wood base, but Graham & Ren both said that the bracing was exactly the same between the two and I can have it bolted to the top (allows for lighter string gauge without fear of the base moving during bends). I'm going to play her with 11s and see if I like her that way. My intension is for this guitar to have some blusey grit tones (not just Jazz tones like a Sweet 16) so I will be bolting the bridge to the top if the 11s don't work out (Hear that Brent, I'll be spending more time sleeping in the barn) FINALLY, I'd love to drop those ivoroid Sperzel tuners in ( like the ones in both my 150s) but I think I heard that the holes already in place for the current tuners would be too big. If anyone knows one way or another I would appreciate it! Going to try the old 'sneak her downstairs whilst the wife ain't looking trick' (not my favorite method but wish me luck on Weds or Thurs!!!
Gitfiddler Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Kuz, you did good, man! That 525 is world class fine IMHO. And ya gotta love that natural finish! :afro: You have one incredible collection of hand made classics. Enjoy them in good health.
Kuz Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 GAS pains were just too unbearable. It came down between a new 110 or the 525. With my recent passion for the 150 Gold top with lollar p-90s (and since I have a solid body 150 Goldtop with lollar imperial humbuckers) I thought it made more sense from a "tonal/sound pallet" to get a 525 with p-90s to compliment my cust 555 (mahogany neck/ rosewood board) 110 would have been great but I have enough solid bodies. It didn't hurt to see Rob's SUPER super in action with the dog ear p-90s in action. That guitar/tone gave me more GAS than Taco Bell for dinner and Cinema popcorn combined! ;D I think I made the right choice for me... :afro:
Thundersteel Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 FINALLY, I'd love to drop those ivoroid Sperzel tuners I kind of like the Sperzels in mine...
