212Mavguy Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Umm, just take a look at my black friday auction thread, something is interesting, am surprised no one picked up on this right away. Big belly laugh here!!!
Number8 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Hold on: Are you saying you effectively paid $450 and received a 1985 H140 instead of the bass?
kbp810 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Well, that was a right funny looking 6 string bass guitar
Number8 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Well, that was a right funny looking 6 string bass guitar Imagine the guy who receives the 4 string H140.
Number8 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Looks like someone paid $850 for the H140 (your H 140)...I foresee someone's seller rating dropping very soon.
212Mavguy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 1050, not 850...Yup, I ended up with the 140. Am thinking that the other guy is gonna get the bass.
212Mavguy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 What would you do if you were in my shoes? This is an epic fumble...c'mon crew, pile on! If it gets good here I'll send the seller the link to this thread...

If it gets good here I'll send the seller the link to this thread... I would play the 140 for a day and then send it back. Of course the seller has to pay the shipping
TalismanRich Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 It sounds like the seller is going to be out some cash for shipping a couple of guitars twice, unless the guy happens to live within driving distance, in which case he should offer one of you gas money and a free dinner to make a delivery!
kbp810 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I would play the 140 for a day and then send it back. Of course the seller has to pay the shipping Yeah, and get a bead on that bass (or a refund, if applicable... but hopefully it's still retrievable)
gpuma Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Anyway, I just saw the pics... That 140 is nice! Enjoy it while it is with you!
yoslate Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Do the right thing. Always! I love the irony that ethics and iconoclasm seem to go hand in hand anymore....
Guest HRB853370 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I guess there is a sucker born everyday!
212Mavguy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 I put it back in its case after tuning and briefly playing it. It will stay there undisturbed in the exact condition recieved. Am not going to make any sudden moves on this one. Seller bears the burden. I'd love to own it, had considered bidding on it, but I had used up the extra cash on the bass and the Super Reverb with the orange frame JBL's. I'm worried about what might happen to the bass with the other buyer needing to re- ship it. Don't know whether the bass has a case like the guitar did.
gpuma Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Your concern is very valid, in facts the seller must agree to refund every penny in case the bass gets damaged in the process. At the end of the day this whole story might have made you laugh at first but it may also turn out to be a pain in the neck. Good luck!
bolero Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 yowza, could turn into a mess for the seller hopefully the swap goes smoothly & you get the bass in good shape!! I wouldn't be surprised if whoever bought the H140 is a forum member?
MartyGrass Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Do the right thing. Take off the high E and B strings and call it a bass. Someone made a labeling mistake. Let the person correct it. You don't need to carry any additional bad karma around over a few hundred bucks.
tsp17 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Someone made a labeling mistake. Let the person correct it. You don't need to carry any additional bad karma around over a few hundred bucks. +1 could happen to anyone.
DetroitBlues Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Let us know how it gets resolved and who got your Bass!
212Mavguy Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 I think that the seller dropped both instruments off at the local UPS shipping store and they switched labels by mistake. Just sent him a brief note to let him know that I got the guitar instead of the bass. The ball is in his court.
pegleg32 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I did that once when I was selling graded Ike dollars. Fortunatly both buyers were understanding and very easy to work with (and coins don't cost much to ship). Having had the experience, I hope you would work with the seller ( and it sounds like you are already doing that ). Or you could always claim finders keepers!!!
212Mavguy Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 What happened...the seller dropped off both instruments at a UPS store franchise to do the packing on a Saturday, they were closed for Sunday, and on Monday they packed and shipped them, the UPS store's employees switched the labels. Seller was not at fault, even though he bears responsibility for the aucton. If the Bass arrives damaged, it's on the UPS store's insurance dime to immediately rectify the matter. But ultimately, the seller is still holding the bag as far as liability for the whole deal, because he was the one to make the decision to have someone else pack for him. The communication was factual, and although my words were direct, was no animosity in them, just the language of business. I kinda feel bad for the seller, but...
