DavesNotHere... What a great Heritage/Schaller collection you have there ! .... BTW: Our band is going to cover Ear Ache My Eye ! Love the handle man. I would Love to find a White Heritage you have there with the maple board..... It's probably a good 80's rock machine.

My first Heritage was my trans-cherry H-535, with Schallers. While I was uber impressed with the playability, beauty, fit and finish of the 535, I figured out pretty quickly that the Schaller's could probably be improved upon. I replaced them over time with SD Antiquities, and am very happy with the results,

Am right there with ya on the first part of your post. The rest... well, after reading the thread title, figured maybe this was a 3am post after a night out with da boyz... :occasion14::coffee2:

Guess just a matter of matching pickups to the guitar. If it works, it works.

So, are you saying you don't care for the Antiquities? My understanding is that they are simply reliced Seth Lovers, but I've been wrong before..As far as the 3AM night out with the boys, this song pretty much sums it up....

Smile - no, I'm right there with ya on the SD's. I was referring the 2nd part on the Schallers without trying to diss 'em too much :)

funny vid, hadn't seen that before. Is it Americana?

Ah, Gotcha, Randy. I'd blame the cold weather for my being so obtuse, but it was like 72 degrees outside today.... Global warming, DONTCHAKNOW.....

I've got an 86 H170 withthe Schallers in it, and had the wiring changed up to allow coil splitting and out of phase. Liked the Schallers before, love 'em now. The 170 can get real bright and transparent for country, and go right to down and dirty blues-rock tone with the push of the pots. Great pick ups in a great guitar.

They are definitely good pickups. They remind me somewhat of Carvin pickups.

The question always is though, are they making the type of sounds that YOU want. I love the clean sounds I get from the Schallers, and they have a very nice smooth response. They sound great clean, and with some dirt. Many other pickups don't sound as good clean.

However, when I use a good amount of overdrive, they seem to lack the "rudeness" i like in pickups, especially with the bridge pickup. They are very clear, but In general I don't want that clarity as much when playing rock or soloing.

These came stock in my 157, and I gave them a try for a while. They just didn't work for me in that guitar though, so I ended up replacing them with SD 59's which still sound very dark in this guitar, but I do like them better. I actually still have the schallers sitting on a shelf. Gold finish, in 9+ condition. If someone wants them, make me an offer.. They will love you long time...

Only what I learned from "Hogan's Heros." haha. You probably are too young to remember that show. Can you imagine the idea being floated out there for that sitcom? "OK, we've got this hilarious comedy show we want to produce; it takes place in a Nazi Prisoner of War camp...."

I've seen it many times. Funny show. I'm sure there were many WWII vets that didn't find that funny, especially the ones that were POW's or had to go into concentration camps....

GGRRR!!! :laughing9: :laughing9: I let Patrick talk me out of picking that one up, and let you know about it; DIBS!! haha

Now there's name.....

I just could not like the Schallers in my 555 so I swapped them out for Seymour 59's. However, Peter Green's 140 has Schallers in it and they seem to work well in the solid body.

I remember firing up PK's 140 with Schallers through her Kustom 30W, expecting to be disappointed. We both sat there wondering what all the fuss was about...they sounded GREAT.

Different guitars AND different amps have so much impact over what ultimately hits your ears, it's hard to dismiss a p'up based on one go 'round with a guitar. Why would these guys, whose guitar acumen we all consider nearly infallible, suddenly become incompetent when it comes to electronics. They've gotta send them out the door with a single option on them, when there are dozens and dozens of worthy alternatives for that same option.

While I was uber impressed with the playability, beauty, fit and finish of the 535, I figured out pretty quickly that the Schaller's could probably be improved upon. I replaced them over time with SD Antiquities, and am very happy with the results, but I have to admit the initial experience with the Schallers soured me on them a bit, along with the common misperception that they are inferior, for some reason. The 1988 H-170 I bought from Brent had Schallers in it, and I figured I would have to swap them out with something, but Brent said they sounded pretty damned good in the solidbody. I was skeptical, but gave them a try. For some reason, they work MUCH better in a solidbody than in a semi, at least to my ears. I plugged the 170 in tonight into my Mustang III set to a cranked up Bassman, and Holy %#@&! It sounded great, fantastic tone, sustain, and note-to-note definition. I know it's not all the pickups, but as I was sitting there with a big shit-eating grin on my face as I played, I couldn't imagine the sound being THAT much better with any pickup change I could think of. YMMV.

I totally Loved the Schallers in my old H-140!! Never understood the negative attitude towards them..but kept my mouth shut..(till now LOL)
