Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (aka GAS)

Number8

I reached a new low point in my guitar addiction today. I spent the entire afternoon home alone with my newborn daughter (who slept throughout with brief breaks to eat and poop). During that time, all I did was surf the net for guitars and guitar parts.

Here's the point: I'm fully embracing my addiction this point. I'm like the heroine addicts in Trainspotting who not only enjoy their addiction but are also embracing the lifestyle. No apologies.

Yes, I just compared GAS to heroin addiction. I can't tell if this post is a celebration of our hobby or a cry for help. Either way, I'm enjoying myself.

Just so long as you dont steal televisions from old folks homes while theyre still watching them.

I just sold my favorite non-musical toy to fund the addiction. The only problem is the fix is at least three months away. :icon_shaking:

Oh and I don't think I can wait that long

Oh you see I'm not that strong...

yeah I had a moment of weakness recently as well...oh well

Kraft Dinner is on the menu for the indefinite future :D

Must not of been too bad of a hit, or the box would be solid white and black letters that read in plain print, "macaroni and cheese"

You know you're in trouble when GAS means: Got Any Strings?

Macaroni and Cheese, hell I stooped to Top Ramen. To buy my first Les Paul, I ate peanut butter on toast and tomato soup, for more

days then I like to admit:) That was many days ago, and I still laugh about that!

If I lived on tomato soup and peanut butter on toast I would probably lose weight, and I need to do that very badly...!

I've been in denial, thinking I have it under complete control, fooling myself into thinking I can stop whenever I want. After all, my most recent acquisition had been a custom made Tele, a couple of months ago. After that, I thought "no more, that's it, I'm done with this GAS thing". Maybe a steel string acoustic in a few months, and the last Tele I'll ever buy in a year, plus one more Strat in a distant future, just for a taste, but that's it. I managed not to make an offer on Mark's Fender amp a few days ago. I felt so strong then, so proud of myself, you know? Well, I can't be in denial anymore: yesterday, I drove 190 miles to do a deal in a parking lot. I crossed state lines for it. I even had my children with me, they saw it when I loaded the amp into the trunk of the car.

Wow, now that's as bad as it gets... Pretty soon you'll start advertising you're 90.9% GAS free....

raises hand , Hello my name is fretless and I have GAS . I do have a failsafe in place , that is.. I can only handle 10 of a particular type of instrument at one time. ex, 10 guitars , 10 basses , 10 mando's , 10 Sitars , 10 pianos etc etc . This works well for me and I have learned not to go beyond that number .

I get GAS on Friday generally. It varies in degrees and can be triggered by the most unexpected thing.

I think GAS can be avoided by buying what you want in the first place.

Hi. My name is PK. And I'm a guitar gear junkie.

You're beyond junkie. You're a cold hearted predator! Luring unsuspecting "friends" into your lair, where you "share" your acquisitions with them, tell them how the guitar is an extension of them, how you can't bring yourself to even keep it with a clear conscience, followed by a dbl of Japanese bourbon and a quick tutorial in paypal usage.....
