Heritage Newbie Alert!

Heritage newbie here! I've dabbled with guitar on and off for 20 years plus! Never gigged, no bands, just me, some backing tracks and an occassional friend. Started back into lessons with a great instructor recently and maybe in a year I'll get to do all those things I haven't done yet!

I've owned a few Gibs and Strats but never had heard of Heritage. Sorry. It wasn't until I found an online instructor a while back who plays a Heritage and my interest was perked. I don't know if name dropping is allowed here so I won't just in case, but he makes learning and playing fun and is quite entertaining! He sparked me to do some homework on Heritage. The more I read and the more research I did the more I liked!

So today, I decided to drop the coin and take the jump. I bought via phone a brand new 2012 535 with Seth Lover pickups in antique vintage natural wood! I bought it from and authorized dealer in southern Illinois. I live in Texas so it should be here in two days and I can't wait!

I play mostly blues and classic rock so I think this is going to be great! I play through a Blackstar Club 40 which I really like and as of now I don't use pedals.

I look foward to learning a thing or two along the way while hanging out here!

Welcome to the HOC! You you will enjoy that 535. Is that a Taylor guitar in your photo?

Yes it is. 2009 Spring Limited 414ce. Here's a photo I borrowed of my new guitar:

Welcome. The 535 has many fans on this board and yours looks like a great specimen. I bet it exceeds your expectation.

Hi Mike and welcome, I have your guitar's 555 cousin, same finish except mine has a matching scratch plate, so I liked yours right away - enjoy it! Visit us often and make plenty posts!

Welcome to the Forum! Very nice guitar, you're going to have fun with that one! Was the instructor you found on line, Marty Schwartz of Guitarjamz.com?

Yep, sure ways! And thanks to all for the compliments and welcomes!

Hi Mike, That's sure a beautiful 535! You'll certainly enjoy playing it and will soon be looking for your next Heritage. Welcome to the HOC! You'll enjoy it here as well.

I love the 535 series. Always wanted a semi since I was a little kid, but couldn't afford the then outrageous cost of almost $400 (mid 60s). I almost bought a Guild Starfire many years ago (also an excellent guitar) then put it off until a few years ago. Since then, my lust for the semi hollow was satisfied by a red 535. I've compared my 535 to several newer 335s and they came up short!

I'm guessing you'll really enjoy yours!

I know Marty likes the brand, but he has been slowly going towards Gibson, he bought a used 335 recently...haven't seen anything in his old 535 or the Prospect he bought not too long ago...

Great looking guitar & looks very much like the one I bought a few weeks ago.

You're going to love it. The Seth Lover pickups will sound especially good in it.

Thanks for the compliments. I owned a ES 335 a while back and foolishly got rid of it. I really like it. I have a Gibson Historic Reissue 57 and a Custom Strat so I can cover just about all the sounds I like. The 335 though, had my favorite sounds and feel so I'm hoping the 535 fits the bill even better. Do you guys look at Heritage as "custom" guitars perse, or just a smaller company with a cool history?

I do.

Every Heritage is essentially built to order -whether it's ordered by a guitarist or by a dealer who hasn't yet found a buyer. Most anyone who has experience with Heritage guitars will tell you they are all comparable to Gibby custom shop quality levels.

Plus, there's a great deal more direct hands on craftsmanship employed in the manufacturing process than at G's Nashville plant.
