Heritage Advertising etc....

As someone who only discovered Heritage by watching YouTube videos, and now someone who proudly owns a Heritage and plays it more than his custom shop Gibson; I don't understand why Heritage ads aren't in all the mags and why they aren't trying to get more endorcements from major current players. When I asked when of my local guitar gurus if he ever heard of them (and I trust his knowledege and experience) if he ever heard of Heritage, he said "yeah, those are the Gibson wanna-bes with the ugly headstock". They I let him play mine. He couldn't believe it. He was blown away. Sadly, the one actual dealer here in town never has them in stock and never seems to be able to get them, so he pushes his other brands.

Ha! (I scoff at that guy's remark!) I am quite confident that The Heritage does not want to be Gibson. Heck, no one wants to be Gibson these days. They are producing an ever increasing amount of garbage on a daily basis. Just yesterday (while I was at GC buying a new amp) there was a brand new Gibson Les Paul sitting on the counter with two of the knobs removed while they were trying to figure out why Gibson's latest technological breakthrough push-pull coil tap switches wouldn't click into the DOWN position and stay that way. I would take a Heritage H150 over a Gibson Les Paul Standard any day of the week.

As for the Heritage headstocks, I thought that way at first glance while I was still a Gibson owner. But now, I want to see lots of Heritage headstocks in my guitar racks. And that headstock design BTW was briefly used by Gibson a long time ago. (There is a name for that design which I seem to have forgotten at the moment.) So now as a Heritage fan, I can't stand the sight of Gibson headstocks or Gibson pick guards. (No offense.)

We debate this point every now and then, but Heritage a small scale operation compared to Gibson, and Gibson seem to have all that marketing stuff at an expert level. I truly believe that no matter how many guitars Heritage would give to so called stars, it would not make any difference. Too many people out there want the Gibson brand, yet we know their products are inferior to Heritage guitars. I think the guys at Heritage have it right how they do things for the way they want to run their company. You can throw money away on promotion if it isn't done right. On personal note, I think Heritage guitars are something you arrive at on your guitar playing journey.

Heritage ( and Gibson ) display at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum in downtown Kalamazoo. It features a video presentation of Heritage crafting a guitar.

This year, Kalamazoo Valley Museum has launched a new oral history project focusing on the original owners and workers of the Heritage Guitar Company, many of whom also worked for Gibson Guitar Company before it left Kalamazoo in the 1980s. Kalamazoo’s music heritage is rich, and its current music scene is thriving. The stories of those who have worked in the stringed instrument making industry in Kalamazoo add to our knowledge of and appreciation for the Museum’s collections and exhibits. The interviews will be integrated into programming such as Kalamazoo Valley Museum’s annualFretboard Festival and “Guest Instrument” display and recordings. The Oral History Project is possible through a KVCC Foundation grant

Sorry Mark. Seem to have commandeered your text somehow. I acknowledge it is all your comment but I am just agreeing with your last sentence. (Bloody technology - never works how you expect)

I would have punched out the ignoramus if he said that to me. A great example of somebody flapping their jaws without any knowledge to back it up. Like Shundog has said, better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as stupid than to open it up and remove all doubt. That is exactly what that dude did!

Great stuff! We need a special page on the HOC to post all of these cool ads and visuals.

How about setting up another area of the HOC Gallery for these shots?

And maybe a gallery of musicians performing LIVE with their Heritage guitars too!

I remember the Gary Moore ones the most from when I was younger, I used to subscribe to the Guitarist magazine here in the UK and there was a Heritage ad usually involving Mr.Moore in every issue at one point. I remember seeing a photo of him inside the sleeve to the Blues Alive album practicing backstage with a Heritage in hand too.

You don't see any Heritage Adverts over here these days though, shame really. I think a continual presence would help with players being a little more aware of these Kalamazoo creations.

And , of course, here's Alex Skolnick spreading the word about Heritage while being interviewed at NAMM for Seymour Duncan...
