Man that turned out Beautiful. I've never played a bass before, now you've got me thinking.........

Its alot of fun man. I transitioned from drummer to bass player, then later took up guitar playing. You have to have a good ear and good timing, but its worth the effort. More reasons to spend more money too!

Reminds me of a Zaphod Beeblebrox quote

"It's the weird colour scheme that freaks me. Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls, which are labeled in black on a black background, a small black light lights up black to let you know you've done it."

What a beautiful bass! The figure on the side of the headstock is a bonus. If you used a darker background for the photos the black finish might pop a bit more. As if I could stand it!

I spoke with Ren briefly today (very briefly as I dont even think they were supposed to be there today), and he told me that roughly 25 or so of these basses were made, but no exact count. There you have it!

The other unique thing is the 17 degree pitch on the headstock! Fender, G&L, none of those brands do that!

Nicely done Will!!! Definitely none more black!!!

By the way, I have the June 1, 1986 catalog page for these basses, and yes… there was an HB 2.

.

Could I get a photocopy of that catalog Soybean? I will gladly reimburse...

@soybean,

What are, if any, differences between the HB-1 and HB-2?

2 pups versus 1!!

Have not seen one yet though.

Ugh, I hate all black. Being a guy that loves ALMOST ALL types of music with a playing style that is way metal I try to stay away from all black. I don't like it much anyway. That being said, I saw this go up for sale and I am fairly jealous. Enjoy it. I play bass (real bass, no pick) too and that is one rare awesome bass. Good on ya you lucky SOB. I'd post me playing Stevie Wonder's Master Blaster if I owned it.... I'd post a smiley face emoticon here but I'm almost 40. Nice snag, real nice snag Slammer.

Slammer! Thanks again. I guess that my Black Friday Auction Day rescue is HB-2. It got back from the shop after a recap roll, new half round strings, several separate oiling sessions for the fretboard, polishing frets, decrudding and polishing the tarnished and pitted bridge and tuner knobs, setup, and play testing. I opened the case at home and brushed a string, a nice throaty rumble oozed out of the case and kept going for a surprising sustain. It sure didn't do that the first time. My pro bassist Heartbreak Hangover band friend David at House of Guitars, SLC, UT did the work. Gotta set up my Fender 160PS, I will change the speaker wiring to parallell in my 2/15 semiclosed cab for a 4 ohm load...

Thanks Dell, I was not a big fan of black guitars either but something about this one and the Mojo it has from being built at Parsons Street...

Awesome, can I see a photo of it? So you really got it on Black Friday at an auction?
