mefoolonhill Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Here's video of Roy Clark and Joe Pass in the studio making their Hank Williams tribute recording in 1994. Roy is playing his Heritage, Joe plays an ES-175. Great rhythm guitar by John Pisano, Jim Hughart on bass, Colin Bailey on drums. If you let the video keep playing it will run through all the songs on the album. http://www.jazzwax.com/2012/09/joe-pass-roy-clark-session-1994.html
barrymclark Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 CRIPES! That is some playing. I remember watching Roy Clark play as a kid and, as I get older, my appreciation for just how good he is just grows and grows. ...oh and Jim Hall was no slouch either. I really like the shout-out he gave to his band... and he is right on with his praise of them.
Genericmusic Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I've had the CD for years. Fantastic musicianship.

Like Barry, I saw Roy Clark as a kid and thought he was a funny and silly guy...Hee Haw, Love American Style, other shows...then I saw him play guitar here in the Midwest (1989?) at some community park district event (they were known for booking many major acts - they must have had a music nut on the board) and my perception of him was reinvented. He stuck around until the last person who wanted to shake hands was through. That was a long time - but he was going to do it no matter how late it got. Him, Jerry Reed, all of those guys are great.
