MartyGrass Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had this on and off again passion for many years. So it is with me and my guitars. I find that I'm buying back some of them or getting nearly identical ones to those I've sold. It's a stormy relationship. Jack Baruth just relinquished my white H157, and I'm glad to have her back.

koula901 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Good God, Liz is frightening in that movie. Ol' Freud would have a field day. Congrats on your remarriage.
JackBaruth Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 That's not the half of it. There's something about the H-157 model that just appeals to old Kalamazoo buff like MartyGrass and me. We had five, count'em, five transactions involving H-157s this year. January 2012: I buy a natural-top Ultra H-157 from him. I like it so much I promptly bury it in the basement so it can't get scratched. February 2012: I trade a brand-new Gibson CS-336 to him for a loaded ASB D-VIP H-157 with all the goodies. Truly one of the great LP Customs of all time. February 2012: I buy a white H-157 from him. I bury this one in the basement, too. February 2012: Marty puts me in touch with a buyer for the ASB D-VIP, which I promptly sell. This actually ends a fairly complex string of deal and puts me $330 up on my original 2009 purchase that started it all. I remember this because I've never made any money on a guitar except for this one. December 2012: I reach out to Marty again on a CNSB H-157 he has in stock. We agree to make a deal with the white H-157 as a trade component. In addition to these deals, I had a trade/refinish/sale on another H-157 that involved Brent and I was briefly involved in conveying another H-157 across international borders, so this was definitely the Year of the H-157 for me!

I love the H-157 OSB that I received from you (I think it was previously owned by Skydog also)
JackBaruth Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I love the H-157 OSB that I received from you (I think it was previously owned by Skydog also) Skydog was the original owner, I think. Between the wood, the finish, the electronics... one of the very best. I mostly sold it because I didn't use the D-VIP and it seemed like a shame to plug it in to a Boogie and squish the sound

DetroitBlues Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Jack, your collection is something dreams are made of.. Sure there maybe many out there with more, but none that I know personally. Fantastic collection of guitars and amps you have. Excellent taste in every purchase and I admire the ability to maintain it.
