GuitArtMan Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 This is the first time I've seen an electric 12 string guitar. Can anyone enlighten me as why someone would want one? Listen to just about anything by the Byrds and plenty of early Beatles stuff as well. Then there's Jimmy's electric 12 in Stairyway...
GuitArtMan Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Is it just me or does the tail piece look bent? Like it can't handle the pull of all 12 strings.
SouthpawGuy Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Are they 12 full size Grovers ? Can't help thinking it may be a little neck heavy.
Houston535 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I touched this one on Saturday. It is pretty nice. The finish was a little rough like there was a little overspray on it but not bad. It has been reduced by $150 I think. I asked a kid in the store if they would consider offers on it but he said beyond the discount they were pretty firm on the price. It was an E date if my memory serves. Pick guard is solid green. I can't play 6 strings so 12 would just drive me insane!
t0aj15 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Because you can't play Stairway to Heaven "Properly" without it! Keep in mind that the original studio version of that song had three guitars in it, a Harmony Sovereign H1260 acoustic guitar, a Fender Electric XII and a Telecaster (given to him by Jeff Beck) for the solo parts. The Gibson 6/12 doubleneck Page used for touring had to be custom ordered because by the time he wanted one (to eliminate switching guitars on stage) they had been out of production for several years.
Tim Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 This is the first time I've seen an electric 12 string guitar. Can anyone enlighten me as why someone would want one? I'm kind of into the Pat Metheny Group's "70's" sound ("San Lorenzo" etc...). Much of that was done on either a Gibson or Epiphone (ES type) electric 12 string (complimented of course by Pat's ES 175, now retired)...
