Otis Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 I doubt it. Probably the only reason they're on Ebay in the first place is because they got broken. Yeah but all broken the same way? The seller of this one even indicates in his ad that he read these tend to have headstock issues. Did they cut the headstocks on the 555 too thin or something? Something having to do with that black treatment on the back?
Steiner Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 What kind of glue specifically? Only the best.

Drop the guitar and it tends to snap. That is a repair, not splintering. If he read splintering is common, he wrote it; it's not common. RUN AWAY.

All broken the same way ? .... i.e. a set neck angled headstock guitar that was dropped ? That should do it.
SouthpawGuy Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Not to sound like a complete grouch ... there are other Heritage guitars with larger headstocks, the Eagles and 575 and I can't say I've seen many of those with a broken headstock. Maybe jazzers are more careful with their gear than the blues / rock guys ?

Maybe jazzers are more careful with their gear than the blues / rock guys ? How do you think blues players get the blues? They snap their necks. - Obviously. The hollow bodies are not only for jazz. The 535/555 F-hole huffing, often talked about here, explodes into dragon breath with a cranked 575 / Eagle and high gain, full stack.
SouthpawGuy Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Says the guy who plays a 575 through a cranked Soldano !
Steiner Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Says the guy who plays a 575 through a cranked Soldano ! Shhhhhh... Don't want the neighbors to know.
H Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 The neighbours?!?!? Last time you played that combo together *I* heard it in Essex!
Steiner Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 You could tell by the way I bungled the Aqualung lead, couldn't you. I have to stop leaving the tell-tale signs. Was that you, H, answering from afar?
gnappi Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I have been looking around for a nice Heritage guitar -- my first foray into the brand -- and was watching this beautiful H-555 on ebay -- was SO READY to post my first NGD thread here! I fell in love with it. Made the minimum bid at $1599, and was the lead and only bidder through the entire auction. I was out today as it was ending and someone snuck in and got it for 25 bucks more! Ugh! These H-555s are so stunning -- I don't see why anyone would be an ES-335 when they could get something more "original" and with tons more bang for the buck. People are such slaves to brands... Anyway, total bummer. I think this would have been a great deal for this guitar. I'm hoping at least someone here was the villain! In the meantime, my hunt continues on, and one day I'll come across that perfect Heritage and it shall be mine... -Oats Here's another trick I use on EBAY and I win almost every auction I bid on. It was mentioned above to enter two bids, that's not bad, but my bids are what I consider FAIR. I don't want to or try to steal something for the opening bid because I'll guarantee more often than not someone in the world is willing to up you by 25 or 50 bucks. Only you can decide if losing a cherry guitar like that wasn't worth an opening bid of $1701? That's only a hundred and two bucks. A bid like that almost ALWAYS beats the auction snipers unless the guitar is worth a LOT more.

I noticed that they one from Maysville KY sold for $1600. It was listed as "Sunburst Almond" , but the label said CNSB (chestnut sunburst). Did you happen to catch that one? Looked pretty nice to me.

It allows you to indicate the maximum you want to spend on an item. It then automatically increases your bid by the amount needed to meet the next bump(s). E.G., if you are willing to spend $1,500 on an item that is currently at $1,000 and the minimum increase is $25, eBay will automatically bid $1,025 for you. This will go on until no one bids any further and the auction ends -- then you are the winner (assuming the reserve has been met). If the bid goes past $1,500, eBay will stop bidding for you and send an email telling you that you will have to increase your maximum bid to stay in the auction.

I worked with that owner and almost had a purchase lined up for less than that. He decided to relist it on eBay a second time. I was going to lock it up, but in the interim ended up finding a Yamaha SA2200, and I'd been dying for one of those as well (I got it and absolutely love it). I still want to get a H555 some day, but it will have to wait a bit now. Heck, at the right time maybe I'll even just have heritage build me one custom...
