tdrommond Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Last year I stopped by here and ask a few questions. I got all kinds of confused because I'd never had a guitar like a Heritage Super Eagle. I let it get to me and left the forum with my tail between my legs. Since then I've gotten to know the guitar and myself a little better. Here's some older pictures of the Super Eagle. Several may recognize it and me by seeing it. I'll take some fresh pics now that it's right. Once I took it to a luthier and had him set it up, it's turning out to be a great player. He's a big Heritage fan and knew exactly what I had. He has a beautiful H150 and an H530 that makes my eyes water. Once he got all his drool off of the SE, he went to work. He reset and indexed the bridge, adjusted the action and explained the finger tailpiece to me. He put D'Addario Chrome flatwounds in 11-50 gauges on it, centered the tuners and dailed in the tailpiece. It has made all the difference in the world. It still feels huge to me. Sitting on a chair to play puts my right arm to sleep reaching over that huge bout. I figured out that if I sit cross legged on the floor, I can get more comfortable, or just stand up with it and go. I still need to order the replacement truss rod cover and have it engraved, but overall, it's in fine shape and playing sweet.
davesultra Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Looks great! I feel your pain regarding the whole arm falling asleep thing. I always have the same problem when playing "D size" acoustics.
Blunote Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Did you wind up buying it from your friend? Or, is it on a long-term loan? I'm glad you're now able to enjoy it. That instrument's probably soaked up a lot of pride and joy over the years that's bound to wear off on somebody.
pegleg32 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Glad you came back to the HOC, We love to admire Heritage guitars and usually take well to their owners.
TalismanRich Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Welcome back. That looks like an excellent Super Eagle. You were smart to take it to a good luthier to get it set up to your liking. Having a guitar that feels "right" makes all the difference in your enjoyment and playing. What type of music do you play? I would guess you're into a bit of jazz, if you're playing the Eagle. We always welcome clips and pics.
Steiner Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 That's beautiful in the sunlight. Congratulations on your new best friend. You might try playing the guitar on your left knee ala classical guitar style. That seems to take the size out of the equation.
Genericmusic Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 What a beautiful guitar. Congratulations!
schundog Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks for the pics; what a beauty! Stick around, we are a pretty fun, easy going group of guys and gals.
Guest HRB853370 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks for the pics; what a beauty! Stick around, we are a pretty fun, easy going group of guys and gals. And he resurfaces!
Ned Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 She is a beauty. I suspect the romance is just started
tdrommond Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Did you wind up buying it from your friend? Or, is it on a long-term loan? I'm glad you're now able to enjoy it. That instrument's probably soaked up a lot of pride and joy over the years that's bound to wear off on somebody. I bought it from him. He called me one day and asked how things were going with it. I told him I had taken it in and had it setup and all that went into it. He said he could tell that I loved it and asked if I'd like to buy it. We both did some research and settled on a figure, which was probably still too high because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get tough and really haggle. All I needed was a good excuse to say yes. So, yes it was. The price doesn't really matter in the end anyhow. I got a great deal. Perception is reality. Where else would I ever cross paths with something like this? I killed myself last year and had a very good 2012. I figured...well, my wife figured, that I'd earned it. As far as pride and joy rubbing off, I can only hope and play. Thanks for all the welcome back replies. I promise to stay on my meds
H Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I'm glad to see you back and fully in tune with your Heritage. There's just one thing wrong... You need more Heritages. More
tdrommond Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Dang! What took you so long, a set up? Finding a luthier that knew what I was talking about when I said I had a Heritage Super Eagle was the hardest part of the setup.
2bornot2bop Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 beautiful SE. One of the nicest I've seen!
