H Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 We want moreLol PT, OT, choke and reverb driver due for load up this weekend. I might even add the filter caps to the dog-house board
Jimbob Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 That's a tea cup - I'm English! Ha! Where have I heard that before?.......LOL. Lookin' good, Howard!
Trouble Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Very nice, clean work. I've been building effects pedals lately and enjoying it for the most part, but it's making want to try building an amp pretty bad. Threads like this just makes it worse. Hopefully next year I can give it a try. Looks great, can't wait to see the end result!
H Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Little bit more work this evening: PT loaded up, face and rear plates loaded but protective plastic left on. Starting to look like an amp now I'd like to have attached the OT, choke and reverb driver but I need to drill larger holes and my 3mm HSS bit is blunt. Off to the shops tomorrow. A few more ancillary bits and pieces and then it's 'build the boards' time
schundog Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm loving the thread, Howard. Other than the 2X10 speaker configuration, what are the main differences between a Vibrolux and a Deluxe Reverb?
H Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Glad it's floating your boat DR is a 2x6V6 22W amp. VR is a 2x6L6 35W amp. Roughly the same circuit, just bigger iron and tubes
Steiner Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Looking good! Love the vicarious builds. Nice snatch!
H Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Looking good! Love the vicarious builds. Nice snatch! Lol I'm sure you've had nicer
H Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Sweet! This is the easy bit, Jim - debugging it is the tough part!
Steiner Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Lol I'm sure you've had nicer Touche' Mrs. Steiner didn't take kindly to my comparing it to a tweed or brownface build. I had to assure her that the way amps heat up tubes is entirely different. We're good. I still would love to build one. The amp that is...
yoslate Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Looking good! Love the vicarious builds. Nice snatch! Lol I'm sure you've had nicer http://instantrimshot.com/?play=true
rockabilly69 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Looking good H, it's going to be a great amp!
H Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Chassis redrilled and the OT, choke and reverb driver fitted. Populated both of the minor boards except for a couple of resistors.
H Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 A little bit more done today: filter cap board completed and main board half populated.
Steiner Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Oh boy! It won't be long now. ( so says the rabbi...)
H Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Any updates yet?All quiet on the Western Front, I'm afraid :-/ I don't expect to get enough time to work on it until the weekend after next. I look for a three hour window at the very least which gives me time to lay everything out and review the work I've already done before getting on with the next section. There's still about twenty hours work left in it I think. I've been busy on it from other angles though, buying vintage pre-amp tubes (Mullard, GE and a pair of Philips 12AT7s) and researching speaker options. I'm thinking of pairing up one of my super-clean Celestion G10Ks with a WGS Veteran which is a bit flubbier.
knopfler74 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Just want to add my own two cents on how cool this thread is, and also how great the build seems to be coming along! I'll be stoked to see, and maybe even HEAR the finished amp! Way to go!
