NGD: Roy Clark in the buff (natural)

This 2000 RC was custom built for the guy who makes the Heritage transfer decals for their headstocks. He is also an active guitarist with roots in the 60s. He knew Bob Seger and other locals back in the day. I've been after this guitar for 2 years and three months!

The finish is natural. The neck is maple. It has a set of the first run of HRWs, according to the guy I got it from.

It's not that light at 8.3 lbs. The center block is partial, but there is little space between it and the back.

The neck carve feels like a medium D. It's straight as can be.

The top and back are really almost quilted. They have a strong 3D appearance that cannot be captured by camera well, especially my cell phone. The striping is wide and cloud like. It would have been amazing in blue.

When he requested the guitar, Bill Paige worked with him. Brad, the seller, wanted the ebony fretboard and maple neck while Heritage's preference then was rosewood and mahogany, according to Brad. He also did not want the signature decal on the headstock.

Brad plays a Tele and an acoustic. The RC obviously has had minimal play and looks new.

Next spring I'll take sunlight pix that will show the wood better.

My work PC won't allow me to attach pix. Here's the link though. I got a few angles to try to capture the depth on the back, top and headstock.

BTW, the guy had been using a Blues Deluxe amp for years before getting the RC, mostly using either a Tele or something with PAFs. He said the HRWs were simply too hot for the amp and caused the sound to break up. He did some mods later on the amp that gave him more headroom that fixed the problem.

He told Ren about his experience with the HRWs, which I guess were pretty new then. Ren said they run a bit hot.

Here's some trivia.

Roy Clark wanted a larger headstock to more easily get to the tuners in a pinch.

He also allegedly ran off with a bunch of Heritage instruments years ago, including at least one mandolin. That's the word on the street.

So we have to trot out this one again, that shows Joe Pass taking a break and tapping his knee while Roy burns...

Nice guitar, I like the natural finish, very similar to my 555 which is mellowing nicely...

That Roy Clark is a real beauty for sure---- Congratulations MG on another gorgeous Heritage!

It is pretty enough to evoke some of those Roy Clark facial expressions!!!

Wow Mark, another truly exceptional guitar. Surely that 576 is now redundant, and taking up vital space. :love7:

Enjoy it. That neck is amazing. Did I miss a "full monty" on this one?

So this is why people invented cameras...

That is a gorgeous fiddle!
