What can you tell me about the Kahuna?

There is a used Kahuna up for sale that I am planning to visit. Can anyone tell me about this guitar? What year was it produced? What pickups were used? How does it differ from the stock H150? Current market value of a used one in good condition?

thanks so much. It is between this and a Gibson Les Paul for a lot more money. Any insight would be appreciated.

Best,

The Kahuna is one of my favorite Heritages.

It was designed and built for Chris Bovard as his signature guitar several years ago.

They are not listed on the Heritage site, but if I were to have another custom build, I'd spec out a Kahuna to my preferences in a heartbeat!

If you do a search you'll find a few thread on that model here on the HOC.

Did you mean to say KORINA?

Inlays? We don't need no stinkin inlays! lol

The kahuna I have is kind of an odd duck. Black binding, no inlays, flame maple pickguard, unbound peghead.

I love the thing though. The HRW pickups sound incredible in it, and it get a great smooth vintage sound. Ever since I got it the H150CM has been my second choice when it comes to single cuts. Of course the 11lb weigh of the H150CM vs the probably 8 lb weight of the kahuna could have something to do with that. It's definitely lighter than the H150CM by a bunch.

Nope, I meant Kahuna. It is a pretty LP style with unusual headstock and neck inlays.

With ALL due respect to Tbone or anyone else who has one of these or loves them, I think that body style is fugly. Yes, it retains the basic shape of the Les Paul but it looks too wide and the cutaway sticks out too far, not pretty at all. JMO.

If it was between a Heritage 'Kahuna' or an H-150 or an H-110 or an H-170, then you could not go wrong with any choice you would make, depending upon your preferences, but in this case, go for the 'Kahuna' and gain something unique and interesting. Why go for just another LP "for a lot more cash"?

I am with Slammer on this- not pretty at all...looks more like a Gibson L6S..., just not as nice... just my .02 and not meant to be disrespectful of anyone's instruments or tastes...

Will, I agree that the body shape is very unique, but functional. There's just something about it that draws me to it. The cutaway appears to encourage using those tiny upper frets...ala Chris Bouvard.

I like the Kahuna model!!

I'd love to get one someday...love the wraptail design & the body shape is very cool

I got to try tbone's out for a bit, last PSP, it was awesome

it was funny he was standing by the amp & I was shouting out different settings to try while I was playing in the middle of some jam

That's not a good shot of the kahuna, something about the blue hides the top carve. This model in natural/ amber with a good flame is sweet.

I like the fact that it looks unique, even if some may think it looks fugly. I'll state the same premise here that I have stated before when others have been very critical of the looks of the Heitage headstock, "it's a guitar, not a bouquet of flowers." My new Rocketfire strat's headstock looked funny . . . until I played it.

If something performs well, I don't think of it as ugly, I think of it as "unique".

I agree 100%. I'm not sure if you were addressing my prior post (probably not), but my point was that the blue one above may not be the best representation of the Kahuna (the linked one is probably better).

Well guys, thanks for all the posts. I bought the Kahuna today! Mine is alot different from tbones. Mine is the more typical Heritage weight at a little above 10, but it has more appointments than his :). The body style is different, but there is something about the unique look of it I like. Yea, it is a bit quirky, but then it doesn't try to be a LP look a-like. The one I got looks like it hadn't been used, very clean.. I'll post some pics in a few.
