blueox Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Congratulations on your Kahuna buy! For my money, you made the right decision.
ridethatbike Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 oh yes. Great job, enjoy it in good health!
kidsmoke Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 nothing Fugly about that in my book. gorgeous. Enjoy!
daiku Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks! Wife wasn't too thrilled, but I was .
chico Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 tell wife it's like putting money in the bank only better..you get to play (with) it. And if you really need the $$, oh never mind. Been there done that..
tbonesullivan Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Nice!!! My kahuna is definitely more of a "simplified" version, except for the awesome pickguard. Mine was definitely customized in the order process. Black binding isn't even available on heritages anymore, and I've rarely seen a heritage with no inlays. But, the most important thing is the SOUND, and Kahunas sound awesome.
nicknickhall Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm diggin the Kahuna. I'm down with the Kahuna.
indravayu Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Hey folks - got a question for you - I recently came across a used Kahuna at my local GC - it looks exactly like the one Chris Bovard is playing in the pic below. I played it for a couple hours through a Plexi clone and it sounded awesome. GC is asking $1500 for it, which seemed reasonable, so I put a deposit down on it to hold it for a few weeks. I had never heard of the Kahuna before and GC had no idea what year it is, so I wanted to see what you folks think - is $1500 a good price?
davesultra Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I'd say if it's clean that's not a bad price, especially given their obscurity.

indravayu Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 congratulations! Enjoy her. Unfortunately, I can't take her home until the end of the month - some weird California law regarding used gear - the store has to hold it for 30 days (and they just got it in).

If it looks EXACTLY like that one in the photo, that is probably a good deal. The fretboard inlay and headstock binding are fancy upgrades. Especially if it has HRW pickups. (Note the black dot on the pickup selector switch in the photo below as well as the doubled pickup height adjustment screws.) I wonder if there is a Heritage pickguard in the case which might be included with that guitar. Like this...
indravayu Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Yep, it looks exactly like Bovard's in that picture - including the more Gibson-style pickguard. I will have to wait to check on the pickups - if I decide to buy it, I won't go back to pick it up until later this month. It does come with a case, but no idea if there is another pickguard in it - will have to wait to check on that, too. If it looks EXACTLY like that one in the photo, that is probably a good deal. indravayu Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Well, I decided to pass on the Kahuna - it's an awesome sounding guitar, but I really prefer a separate bridge and tailpiece over the single piece Pigtail bridge. If anyone is interested in this guitar, it's at the Hollywood Guitar Center in Los Angeles - (323) 874-1060 - they have to hold it until Nov. 29th, but you can put a deposit on it now (the price is $1500). As I said above, it looks exactly like Chris Bovard's guitar in the pic above. So, instead of the Kahuna, I found a sweet 2014 H-150 online - will post pics once I have secured the sale.
