It serves two purposes - installed into a pedal with no battery attached, it stops the internal battery from operating in case a foot button gets pushed while in storage. The other is a quick and dirty way to power a pedal with a dead battery and no time to lose, or if the power supply goes south. You can unscrew the bottom of the stompbox and reinstall a fresh battery on your break.... The part number for the plug is 274-1567 and the snap is 270-324 at Radio Shack. .
