Heritage Story

Last night, I finished my work and left my hotel in downtown Nashville on foot, headed to Broadway to find something to eat. After dinner, I walked past the myriad of clubs on both sides of the street, stopping briefly at each to give a listen to the music being played. Then I hear some really driving guitar, deep bass and hard drumming, so I pop in to have a look. The band is playing hard and it looks like they're having fun. But what is that over in the corner? That white guitar, kinda looks........well, I do believe

To be sure, I have to get up closer to have a better look. I don't want to be too distracting, but honestly, there aren't too many people in the place anyway.

I'll be darned. It is a Heritage. Nice looking one at that! Very unique white.....555? The band is rockin hard, playing country songs, then rock, originals, really mixing it up.

My mind starts to work a little better, and the more I think of it, the guy playing the Fender looks familiar. I know I haven't seen him in person, but I never forget a face. Had to have been YouTube or something. Was it, maybe it was.......does this guy play with Frankie Ballard?

I don't know how long they've been playing their set, nor how much longer they have to go, so between songs and after a tip to the tip jar, I politely suggest maybe plugging in the Heritage. He says, "I've been thinking about that." As he is changing guitars, he says "this one sat unfinished at the factory for a long time, and I asked 'ol Marv to finish it for me, and he did." Boy do I know that feeling. I tell him we have to talk when he's done playing. He says, ok.

When he is done, he introduces himself. Eddie Robinson, guitar player for Frankie Ballard. We chat a while about Heritage Guitars, his 555, the factory, Kalamazoo, life on the road. Heck of a nice guy.

By the way, the H-5 mandolin that was at Gruhn Guitars, isn't there anymore

Great story Victor. I remember seeing him before and the guitar.

Great resolution on those photos. Just passing through N'ville?

Fantastic write up and pics. Thoroughly enjoyed that, Victor - thanks. Sharp 535 with the dark binding.

And you didn't get run off the road into a ditch... even better!

Looking at those pics again - is that a piece of plywood he has in front of his speaker (vox combo looks like)... a volume baffle as it is?

Happy for this guy that he has success-and quick success at that. I am sure he paid some dues to get there. That said, I just don't see where his "sound" is much different than any of the other modern country acts coming out of Nashville for the past few years.......

Very cool that both guitar players play Heritage though!

Yeah, it is, and it looked to have that egg crate foam on the other side.
