chaze Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Anyone can suggest how to check if my prospect is floating block or not?people said if it can pass thro a paper means it is floating block. It seems not for me.It will be great if someone can post a photo of your floating block.Thank you!!!
Spectrum13 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Place finger in the f hole and feel for a gap between the bottom of the block and the back. Should be about a half inch.
Number8 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I can see the gap on mine. It's pretty clear.
DetroitBlues Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Get a tiny dental mirror...Or pull off a pickup and take a look.
tbonesullivan Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I don't think you can see it with a pickup off, the center block is in the way. The only way to really see is through the F holes. Then you can see if there is space between the center block and the back. the top of the guitar is still glued to the center block.
bolero Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 you could also drop a light down thru an F hole & see if it shows under the block, when you look thru the other F hole
chaze Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 Thanks All! I believe mine is not floating block then. there is no gap at the back... and, i knock the back at the middle area, it sounds solid compared with the 2 side area. I don't know why i got a solid block actually as i know i ordered a standard prospect.
Number8 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 That's curious. Have you measured the lower bouts? Are they 16" across or 15"? Maybe you got a 535.
chaze Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 It is 15". It is prospect as I can see the name tag inside the body.
bolero Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Well there is definitely a glue line there My prospect had a floating block there was about 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap Maybe they've changed the specs?
SouthpawGuy Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 That's definitely not floating, just had a look at my own Prospect and it's a floating block with maybe 1/4" gap between the block and back of the guitar. Also checked my 535 and that looks the same as the pics above, i.e. no gap, not floating.
kidsmoke Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I'm assuming you've seen this, but just in case, read the sellers description in the original post. Prospect with a "full solid center block" It at least illustrates that there is precedent for this. Sorry if that wasn't what you were looking for. Still a great guitar, no doubt. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/topic/20991-2006-heritage-prospect/
tbonesullivan Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Hmm, interesting. Normally the cutout for the electronics would be only visible from one side. Is the center block just missing forward of the bridge pickup? with the prospect, they get the "floating gap" by omitting the kerfing they use to bridge the gap between the center block and the top.
