NGD - a long wait to redeem a leap of faith

After a few failed attempts to buy my first Heritage 2nd hand, I finally decided to place a Custom order. That was back in april 2011 and quite a leap of faith because I never even touched a Heritage. But from what I had read about them, I wanted to own at least one anyway. I'm happy and proud to announce that I have finally received it a few weeks ago. It took a while but it was definitely worth the wait, what a lovely guitar it is. You may remember the first part of the story if you have read the thread 'Crazy Heritage Horror story' - the Heritage folks installed the wrong Bigsby (B5 instead of B7) on my guitar. Thanks to the dealers persistence, they started all over and did it right the second time.

The specs are:

Millennium Ultra

50s fat neck

Bigsby B7

Split block inlays

Lollar Imperials

Nickel hardware

Translucent Wine Red finish w. stinger

Cream binding

The last picture shows both guitars hanging on the wall at the dealers place. Funny to see the small differences, the diamond inlay on the headstock and the inlay in the 19th fret, things that I didn't specify. Obviously artistic freedom is more important to the good folks at Heritage than fixed specs, which I find very likeable. I'm just baffled that both times they installed cream pickup rings since I have ordered it with black rings, but oh well, they're probably out of black pickup rings these days :-). On the pictures, the finish colour looks more cherry than wine but that's just on the pictures. TWR is very beautiful indeed.

So all is well that ends well I guess, and it's nice to know that there's a twin guitar somewhere out there. I hope its owner will be as satisfied with it as I am.

Congratulations. I'm glad it finally worked out for you. The Millennium models are sweet creations!

Yours turned out great. I'd take either one. Love the color on that.

wow, very nice. as the owner of a Millie H155 in trans cherry, I have a basis to compare with in terms of color and some of the fixin's..

1. yours looks like a darker version of cherry trans (from the photos) and by the way I like it a LOT.

2. the diamond inlay on the headstock has become something I'm quite fond of on my Millie, as with the inlay "the Heritage". My other Millie, a DC, doesn't have the diamond, seems to be standard w/o on the DC's, with on the 155's.

the bigger differences:

1. the Bigsby (mine doesn't have)

2. F-holes (my 155 doesn't have, the DC comes with F-holes) although HOC'r tulk ordered and got a DC w/o F holes and in a custom darker burst.

3. pickups and hardware color, both mine have HRWs and the 155 came w/silver hardware which is out of the usual for Millies, I like that over gold but just personal taste.

4. and the split blocks, a nice choice on yours

anyway, very nice! you are a patient man sir!

enjoy and I stuck my 155 up so you can see color, mine a brighter red than yours but like yours has the red on the neck and back as well, I LOVE that. mine is a medium thickness neck BTW.

edited to add: the darker version of red really shows off the flame on the top. and the shots of em on the hangers make them look darker too.

congrats.

I love the diamond inlay (which I have on my 155) and also that 19th fret inlay! Classy as heck. I love translucent wine too, here is a pic of my 550 in same color!

Thanks for all your comments.

Trans cherry is definitely a lot brighter. A matter of personal preference, I guess.

That wine 550 with the cupids bow is one hell of a dream guitar!

Sadly, I think he's saying that their second effort didn't include either the diamond or the 19th fret inlay.

In the end, those inlays are side issues. The diamond would have been nice but I can live without it. The Bigsby model is much more important to me as I think that the B5 is made for flat tops only. Not that it doesn't work on an arched top, it's just an awkward fit. And that superfluous Custom plate is ugly as hell.

Congratuations.

I have an Eastman T186 that I bought, in large part, because of the finish, which looks almost identical to yours.

You have a really beautiful guitar, it just oozes class and shows just what great guitar builders Heritage are. By the way, I haven't welcomed you yet, so a big welcome to the HOC.

I agree. I assumed it was to hide holes drilled for a stop tail. But I'd think if the guitar was ordered with a Bigsby, there'd be no need for mounting holes for a never installed stop bar.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

That's what I suspected at first. But I've discussed it with the dealer and he checked - there are holes under the plate. I would have had the plate removed and the holes repaired but that's not what a new custom ordered guitar should look like. Well, I'm just glad it all worked out in the end.
