rockabilly69 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Although I haven't got my replacement parts for my H150 yet, I did do a proper setup, got some lighter strings (Pyramid .009 set), and most importantly adjusted the Pearly Gates pickups. I can not believe the difference the pickup adjustment made! No more overpowering bass, and believe me that bugged the holy hell out of me! Also when it was sent from Wolfe the Nashville tailpiece was way too high (see pic), and it had GHS strings on it with tension so high that I couldn't hold 14th fret bends on the G string with vibrato. With the new string set I had to turn the trussrod a half turn to get the relief I needed. Also the nut seemed to be cut for .009s which made me happy. The guys I emulate mostly used lighter strings and that's part of the sound. After the adjustment I took it out to my gig with my duet The Legendary Porch Pounders, and played a whole set with it. My partner, played harmonica one half the set, and lap steel for the other half. The guitar sounded great, so I will say it's a keeper. (look at the bridge on the low end side, who set this one up???)
schundog Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Cool! I'm glad it worked out for you. So, since it worked out with the old parts, are you going to install the new ones anyway? God, I love the color on that thing.

God, I love the color on that thing. Yes I have a lightweight aluminum tailpiece coming, and a ABR bridge for the Nashville posts. I was going to change the pickups but I am going to do some polepiece adjustment tonight. I love lightweight tailpieces on LP style guitars, I've had very good luck with them and this will further reduce the weight of this somewhat heavy guitar. There is a great way of adjusting if you got patience and a good ear right here... http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154644&highlight=PAF+adjustment
bolero Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 careful with that axe, eugene!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYMyxTFwuz8 haha congrats, looking forward to some of your clips with this
DetroitBlues Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 That guitar looks like it was set up for slide work. But I love the top on that 150. So cool.
heritagefan7 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Congrats on the successful gig! wonderful git.
fxdx99 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Man, that's a great shot of your 150. That bridge does look high... is it compensating for the neck angle or something? Glad it's working out.

Genericmusic Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 careful with that axe, eugene!! That is my favorite Pink Floyd song. It was used in the opening episode of the BBC's presentation of The Ascent of Man narrated by the great anthropologist Jacob Bronowski. It was used as background music describing homo-sapiens first hunt. No back to the regular programming. Rockabilly69, that is one fine looking instrument. I am glad to hear you are bonding with it. I am looking forward to hearing recordings of you using it.
LucSulla Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I really, really did the finish on that guitar. It's lovely.

It was used as background music describing homo-sapiens first hunt. ha, that would be fitting soundtrack when I was a kid I used to watch "live at pompeii" when it was broadcast late at night, it was eerie but intriguing...I even figured out how to screech like that but I could never do it once I got older than 15 I grew up out in the country, surrounded by forest & hills. at night with that playing on the TV it was kind of creepy but very primal. I couldn't watch horror movies though!! it was too much lol...and "in search of...Sasquatch" freaked the hell out of me sorry for the thread hijack!
rockabilly69 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 I love Pink Floyd especially their earlier stuff! I remember when my brother Matt brought home a live album they did and I saw all the equipment they used (in the 70's), I was blown away! Sid Barrett was a great musician before the meltdown and David Gilmour just came right in and got the job done! I especially like Gilmour on the lap steel! Okay, back to the H150, I woke up this morning and the action raised up a little with the trussrod adjustment (as it always seems like it does), so I redid it. Now it's much closer to being right, but I'm going to have to pull out the nut files as the nut slots still need be done correctly. I am not going to give any awards to the people that slotted this nut. Could you imagine how tight these slots would have been with .010s, the picture is after I changed to .009s!!! I played my solo gig today and used this guitar for about 5 tunes. It's better but not as good as it needs to be. Next Monday, my first day off of the road, I am going to dress the frets as there are a few high ones, and spend some serious time on the nut, along with polepiece adjustment. The after pics...
rockabilly69 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Here the Pink Floyd shot I was referrring to (1969, I was 11).
bolero Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 ha that's from ummagumma....killer live disc I wish they'd recorded more shows from that era! How cool is it to have your name on the cover of a pink Floyd album? That version of astronome domine is great...damn this phone I hope it spelled that right
Genericmusic Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 ha that's from ummagumma....killer live disc I wish they'd recorded more shows from that era! Another thread hijack. Excuse me.
PrairieDude Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hey rockabilly69, that looks like a great set up you've done on your guitar! It's low! I like it. What's the measurement from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of each E string? Or is it one of those, you could tell me, but then you'd have to kill me deals? Oh, and I love Pink Floyd, too!! I got to see them in Wichita, KS in 1972 or '73 for the Dark Side Of The Moon tour. What a great band!!!
