snacker Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 hey gang! the 576 that i've been waiting for for 18 months finally arrived. It's an awesome guitar with a few quirks though.... 1. It's missing the dot at fret 9 on the side of the fingerboard?!? 2. the nutslots looks like it they were hacked out with a butterknife 3. some screws connecting the bigsby to the body are loose 4. setup was really bad - neck was totally straight, strings were really high that being said, i love it - any of you have stories of "quirks" in your heritages? when i bought my 535 last year, it arrived with a couple of extra pieces of loose wire that fell out of the soundhole when i turned it upside down cheers! brentrocks Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Congrats on the new Heritage...it is amazing! as far as the dot...call Ren, i'm sure he will make it right. the nut, i'm not guitar tech, but if it creating tuning issues, call Ren. did the bridge just need to be lowered to achieve the right action? or did you have to tweak the truss rod a little too? Beautiful guitar...i hope it all pans out for ya!!! ;D
big bob Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 when I bought my 757 from elderly in 1998, It had extra stuff in the body cavity that I slowly got out over the years... by the way I still have that 575 and love it, just played it not 2hrs ago. strung with 10's and now I feel the urge to hit that sucker with 13's enjoy Bob
yoslate Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 snacker! Congrats on the new box! I thought that was a discontinued model! I do have one though, and let me tell you what: doesn't matter what you're doing with it, it'll rip! Mine (a 1990) is just a fabulous instrument, one of two or three of the best, most versatile guitars I've ever owned! And sorry about the "quirks." I know plenty of people will weigh in with stories and recommendations. Re: the fret marker, did they just not do one, is there a hole? if it bothers you enough to want it remedied, I'd first email Ren Wall at Heritage for advice, but then you might get into shipping the guitar back, and all that implies. Not sure I'd go that route. Shipping a guitar, it seems, is almost asking for it. I know a luthier I trust more than enough to fix anything you mentioned. If you do as well, I'd suggest that. Have him do the position marker, install a bone nut, and do a primo set up. Then it sounds as though you'd be right! In any event, good luck. That's an almondburst, isn't it? My favorite finish; it's what my Super is. And a Bigsby! "Pot's on; gas on high...."
AnH555 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Great looking guitar, Snacker. 18 months. That's probably the record around here. Yeah, I'm starting to think the nut Heritage uses should be at the top of the list of things that need to be improved. I love their woodwork and finishes, though. Is that an ebony fingerboard? Some of the quirks on my 555 include: Quite a bit of lint under the finish on the neck binding. There's a pencil mark on the side of my headstock. The bridge saddles are unevenly notched. There's more, but there's also the positives: The whole guitar is one solid, vibration-free chunk of maple. The thing costs less than half of other guitars like it, and they're not anywhere near as good. Great action, intonation, and sound. Hope you get yours set up just the way you like it and have a great time with it. Looks VERY choice! Maybe someday that missing dot will make it more valuable.

IE hand made . no cnc no mass production, there might be quirks, but I bet that guitsr sounds and plays great, having said that the nut on my stat( that I will replace with bone DIY) is huge .... way big talll!!!! but I love it...
snacker Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 yup, it's an ebony fingerboard - i have another h576 (an older one) and i've always wanted another but with a bigsby, in a reddish almond burst with a bigsby and other options - they've been discontinued for a while now, but when i asked them to make it, they said ok! there isn't a hole for the 9th fret marker - i think i'll get my tech to work some magic on it (i'm not into shipping it back now that i've touched it!) - thanks y'all for the replies
soybean Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 One of my 575s has fret markers on BOTH sides of the fingerboard. No kidding… and it's original!
romk Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 What a nice box I see! Elderly people do forget some things. So consider it is a real Heritage! ;D Congrats!
High Flying Bird Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 It is a very nice guitar. I like the carrying handle.
tulk1 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 What a nice box I see! Elderly people do forget some things. So consider it is a real Heritage! ;D Congrats! They what??? :undecided: I take that personally! Just because one gets older doesn't mean they ............. uh, uh ................. Hey, nice guitar. Weird how they left out the side marker. I actually find I use the side dots more than the inlays these days, as I forget to look at the fret board. ;D Seriously, that is some weird mistakes with the OPs guitar. Ya know, the "old guys" aren't doing that much of the work these days.
big bob Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 look at it this way, none of my heritages have a dot for the first fret. on yours they just put the position marker for 9 in the wrong place. I would leave it just as it is and have a conversation starter.
Thundersteel Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Just take a magic marker with a fine tip and apply it to where the dot is supposed to be!
snacker Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 i'm gonna leave it as is since it's a cool little quirk......and pretend that i still have classical chops - at one point, all i had was a sticker at the 7th fret and beautifully manicured nails here's a pic of the heritage family that lives at my place... Gitfiddler Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Snack~ Great trio ya got there! I really like your older 576...a LOT! When you get a chance, please check back in with a tone report on those babies. Very nice indeed! 8)
romk Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 What a set of babes! Which is your favorite? What kind of music are you into?
snacker Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 i like them all for different things - the 535 for the cover band gigs since it can be a bit more aggressive (playing everything from weezer to shakira and lots of ska and reggae material) - the old 576 for my original project (world-beat influenced jam band www.myspace.com/thebandsnack ) - the new 576 has yet to be used for the original project, but after tomorrow's gig, it'll likely be my #1
snacker Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 tone report....... as requested, here's a play by play..... 1990 - H576 - the mellowest tone of the 3, gibson '57 pickups 2007 - H535 - the most aggressive of the 3, stock alnico schallers - these pickups seem to get a bad rap, but i quite like them in this guitar - they have a nice sizzle to them up high, but very ballsy in the low and low mid range - mids are smooth - they are very microphonic (and have been since new) - i'll likely get them potted at some point 2008 - H576 - this is the new one - the brightest tone of the 3 and almost a little honky at times - seth lover pickups - i'm still tweaking this one a bit and learning how it reacts live - lots of clarity without being thin - very sexy to boot....
Mike Doyle Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Nice jamming snack! And you're from Kitchener...had no idea there was a music scene there haha. I am in London playing the bars here, its fun...but my love lies in creating music and jamming. You guys ever come play in London?
snacker Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 you're right mike.....there is no scene in kitchener...either that or i'm so out of the loop that i don't realize one exists haven't played in london in a while - used to do some duo stuff at the Alex P. - snack! has played some stuff at fanshawe (nooners) - is there a jam-band friendly venue there right now? you ever get to kitchener?...
brentrocks Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 you ever get to kitchener?... i just left the "kitchen" after i cooked breakfast ;D sorry bad joke

Hehe, Alex P's has gone very indie now...artsy stuff. I don't like the people who frequent there now...lazy bums for the most part. There isn't really a place that would cater to you unfortunately. Hell, there is like 4 bars in the whole city of 400,000 which have cover bands, and maybe 5-6 places for original bands. Those places (Call the Office, Embassy, Norma Jeans, Salt Lounge etc..) all play heavier stuff. Punk/hard rock/ska/metal. I haven't been to Kitchener lately, though I have a few friends in Waterloo...and wherever alcohol is flowing, I go. Your drummer is a beast, I would kill to have a guy like that to have some drinks, maybe a smoke and play with all night.
